“Underrated.” This has to be the only word that best describes Quincy Olivari. Now, you’d say, he’s a rookie, and he’s got time to be a star. While that is true, it’s not just about the 23-year-old point guard’s journey in the NBA. It’s about his humble beginning and his hunger to prove his worth. Besides, only talent wouldn’t have worked much for Quincy, if his parents hadn’t been supportive.
During his high school days, playing for Westlake, young Olivari had only one dream: Make it to the NBA. His childhood hero, Stephen Curry was his target. “Gotta be like him,” Quincy must have thought lying in his bed staring at his ceiling. So, speaking on the Come and Talk 2 Me show, the LA Lakers’ two-way guard shared a glimpse into his childhood, high school, and family.
He told the host that he’d go and lift weights with his high school’s football team. Why? Because Quincy Olivari felt his basketball team wasn’t doing the same seriously. “I used to usually just wake up every morning and go lift with the football team,” Olivari recalled. But, it was his mum and dad’s sacrifices, big or small that shaped him to become the next big name in basketball.

Quincy Olivari shares his parents’ contribution and talks about repaying them
Olivari noted: “My mom was just telling me that she would wake up, make me breakfast, and drop me off every morning at 5:00 am.” Quincy’s mother, Courtney Olivari just like all moms woke up early and got the things done to facilitate her son’s training and passion for the game. The 23-year-old added: “It’s the little things like that where my family was just supporting my dreams. Whether I was going to make it or not it got to a point where they were just like ‘We’re just going to support him.'”
Therefore, all those 19 years of sacrifices and support call for repayment. Well, no parents ask for it, but the children always feel the need to do something for the people who’ve loved them unconditionally. Well, Quincy Olivari is no exception in this case. He is looking for the right time to thank his parents and repay them for everything they’ve done for him. Thus he shared: “Now that I’m here when that day comes and I’m able to repay them definitely will be worth the 19 years. I’ve been playing since I was four. So, the 19 years of headache and sacrifice.”
It’s safe to say, the Olivari parents’ hard work truly paid off with time. Quincy, despite being undrafted made his way to the Los Angeles Lakers through his raw talent on the court. Moreover, making it to the NBA was a challenge for the young gun. He had people laugh at him and think he was ‘crazy’ for dreaming big.

“And since I made it this far, people have called me like ‘Yeah I remember when you said that you were going to be in the NBA.’ And I was like ‘Yeah I don’t know this kid crazy’ cuz I used to run cross country. So when I was like 6ft 140, I mean talking about I’m gonna make it to the NBA and you know I was saying that ‘Imma be just as good as Steph Curry.'”
