Quincy Olivari’s NBA debut with the Lakers on Sunday was a huge moment for the rookie. After reportedly signing with Curry Brand, Stephen Curry’s line at Under Armour, he’ll be joining De’Aaron Fox as one of only two active NBA players representing the brand. Before his debut, the young gun had a virtual meet-up with Curry the day before the game. Imagine chatting with your idol right before your big moment!

They talked, and the Splash Bro gave him some encouragement. Olivari also then shared he got a text from Curry, showing how much the superstar was invested in his journey. It’s clear Steph was paying attention, and Olivari was feeling the support.

Once the rookie hit the court, Curry was already thinking about his next move. After hearing about the rookie’s debut and first-ever points in the NBA, Steph made it clear he wanted Olivari’s signed shoes for his collection. “Everybody is getting signature shoes now. I’m happy to have him on the squad, for sure,” Curry said. “Good timing right there. I don’t know what kicks he had on tonight, but I’m going to try to get him to sign them for me as a first bucket. That’s pretty dope.”

Olivari soon replied on X. “I had on yo “Saw” Curry 1 Low PEs, they coming right back to u 🫡” Going back on his word, Quincy had said he didn’t like any scary stuff. “Um, he, he likes scary movies, I don’t. So you’ll never catch me wearing no scary movie.” Hmm, looks like the Curry name does something to you!

The young gun had also shared advice for the 2x MVP! Olivari gave Steph the advice his father showered on him. “Go beat up that dude… Just go out there and have fun… Just go out there and be that kid and have some fun… Why not make the last month of 2024 special?” These words must’ve struck some chords with Curry because the Warriors ended up snapping their 5-game losing rut. But Olivari had to worry about his own debut first.

His debut came at a critical time for the Lakers, with LeBron James and Austin Reaves out. Coach JJ Redick called for him in the first half, and Olivari made the most of it, scoring a 27-foot 3-pointer. Not a bad start for a rookie, right?

Olivari wasted no time making his mark. He scored a 3-pointer in the second quarter, marking his first NBA points in a Lakers win. The moment was even more special for the young guard because his dad was in the stands. “A lot of prayer, a lot of preparation, and a lot of perseverance,” Olivari said. “It meant a lot, especially to have my dad here. He was the first person to take me to an NBA game. To have it here and have him here, hitting a three, it meant a lot.”

What makes this debut even more impressive? Olivari didn’t know he’d be playing until the day of the game!

He recalled, “I woke up this morning at 8 a.m. to a text saying change of plans, you’re active.” Despite the change in routine, Quincy stayed focused, hit his shot, and was ready for the opportunity.
