One of the biggest talking points of the Lakers‘ preseason was Quincy Olivari. The 23-year-old point guard mesmerized everyone with his perimeter shooting and also earned Stephen Curry’s friendship in the process. However, it wasn’t until the Sunday night outing against the Trail Blazers that the LA side trusted the PG to take the court for the first time. While he could only play for a few minutes, the rookie did something unthinkable with his recent interaction with the Baby-faced Assassin.
For those who don’t know, Olivari is a huge fan of Steph. It came to the spotlight after the Lakers-Warriors preseason game. The superstar presented him with a jersey and also offered a photograph. And during the post-game presser, he also delivered an emotional statement about his love for the superstar. After that wholesome event, the NBA world witnessed him straight on Sunday night, where he dropped 3 points in 8 minutes. Especially, it was off a scintillating bucket from the deep. An ode to Steph may be.

When the reporter asked if Olivari received any advice from Steph before the debut, the rookie revealed that it was he who gave his wisdom to the superstar. “I didn’t reach out to him today… I reached out to him last week before they played Houston. ” Addressing the Dubs’ then 5-game losing streak, Olivari passed on his father’s advice to him, texting, “Go beat up that dude… Just go out there and have fun… Just go out there and be that kid and have some fun… Why not make the last month of 2024 special?”
While Steph appreciated his effort, Quincy managed to crack up the superstar as well with an additional text. He continued, “You don’t got no rhythm, you go out there just try your best’, he laughed and said, ‘Imma try my best'” Moreover, the rookie didn’t receive a word from Steph before his debut but got a FaceTime opportunity. The rising star recently signed up with the Curry Brand and became the second active player after De’Aaron Fox to sign up for a shoe deal. Truly an overwhelming event for a rookie. Speaking of the feat, he said, “It’s a huge accomplishment… it’s a blessing, and it’s just a reap what you sow type of thing, just continuing with my hard work. Just making sure that I keep the main thing the main thing and more blessings will come.”

So, Quincy pretty much made his childhood idol a business partner even before setting foot on the NBA floor. Now that he made his debut for the Lakers, the media asked him if he had a word with Steph before the game. While he opened up the text message scenario, he also had an interesting virtual meet-up with Curry the day before the game.
