The anger has been let loose! Steve Kerr unleashed his displeasure at the refs as they blew the final whistle at the Mile-High City. The Golden State Warriors threw away yet another game despite having held a double-digit lead twice in the game. Until the last 4 minutes, it looked like the Dubs fixed their mistakes and would end their losing streak. But as usual, the team again had butter fingers and let the game slide away. However, Kerr wasn’t upset with his players, but with the officials for a particular reason. Will he be slapped with a fine?
In the final 14 seconds, the Dubs were 4 points behind. They had to manage a two-possession game to seal the deal. Moses Moody went for a three-pointer but missed it, and the Denver Nuggets’ Christian Braun caught the defensive rebound with 2 seconds remaining on the clock.
That said, Braun couldn’t save it for longer, as Andrew Wiggins barged in, forcing a jump ball. Despite winning the possession, the Dubs couldn’t materialize it into a win. While the players slowly dispersed off the court after the buzzer, fans saw Kerr fuming and arguing with the refs.

Steve Kerr claimed the refs failed to call a technical foul on Christian Braun’s final play, stating that he called a timeout while they didn’t have one. Speaking at the post-game presser, Kerr said, “Braun called a timeout. He dove onto the floor, he rolled over. Everybody saw it, except for the three guys we hired to do the games. That makes me angry. That’s a technical foul. They don’t have a timeout. Technical foul, issue a free throw and we get the ball. We get a chance to win the game. They all told me they didn’t see it.”
Most importantly, Kerr called out the refs for not doing their job. He said, “It’s up to the referees to see. That’s why we have three of them. Somebody’s got to see it. Yeah, that made me mad.” While we have seen instances of refs getting fined for critiquing the refs post-game, will Kerr face the same fate?
Did Christian Braun really call timeout as Steve Kerr claimed?

Looking at how Steve Kerr confidently addressed the issue on the post-game presser, it looked like Braun did call the timeout. However, we have a different perspective. According to the refs’ Crew chief Tyler Ford, there’s another side to the story. NBA Insider Brett Siegel quoted Ford when he said, “Christian Braun never fully or clearly signaled for a timeout, therefore a timeout was not recognized.”
So Kerr doesn’t really have any defense for his claim unless there’s strong video evidence. Nevertheless, Steve Kerr may have to deal with the league’s strict action for aggressively pursuing the refs. Recently, Kerr’s former assistant coach dealt with a similar issue when he had a heated exchange with a ref during play. Guess what? The league slapped him with a hefty $35k fine.

Steve Kerr may also face a similar fine. However, the 9x NBA Champ didn’t blame the refs for the loss. He added, “With that said, that’s not why we lost. We lost because we didn’t close, again.” So, Kerr is clear about the part that the Dubs didn’t play really well in the last few minutes.
