“We’ve got to get back, get matched up in transition.” After the Lakers lost to the Grizzlies earlier this month, JJ Redick looked to prioritize defense. After all, what’s the point of having efficient scorers like LeBron James and AD if you cannot stop the other team from scoring? Since the Grizzlies game, the LA side has been on the right track and won all 5 of the matchups. Despite this, the rookie HC remains unsatisfied with his players’ ability to guard. As it turns out, so do the reporters, which led to a hilarious moment recently.
Earlier today, JJ Redick was in his post-game presser after the recent Lakers-Pelicans matchup. The game was a close one for LeBron James and Co., as they only secured the win by a close score of 104-99. Addressing this, the rookie coach provided his critique of the team’s defense, stating, “There wasn’t really an adjustment defensively. It was just ‘Get the f—–g ball’.”
The reporter who put forward the question instantly replied, “Makes sense.” This caused Redick to shrug his shoulder in a somewhat sarcastic manner. The combination of words and expressions was enough for several people in the press room to lightly chuckle.

Despite putting out the ‘F-Word’, Redick’s mannerisms were calmer than how they were a few hours ago. During the game, Austin Reaves attempted to make a layup, but Jamal Cain body-blocked him. As LeBron gained possession of the ball, JJ said something (inaudible) in the officials’ direction. A whistle then blew and the Lakers boss received the first technical foul of his coaching career.
JJ Redick had his reasons to be upset. After all, the Lakers held an advantage, thanks to the Pels squad being ‘injury-depleted’. Despite this, LeBron and Co. were trailing by 15, as halftime approached. Many attributed this wide gap to the team’s lack of defensive effort. Fortunately, they improved in the 2nd half, and the Lakers saved themselves from losing to a team that held a 4-9 record (now 4-10).

After JJ Redick took the hot seat in LA, speculation arose about what type of coach he would be. After all, he was coming in to serve as an instructor to one of the most popular franchises without having had any experience in coaching. Whatever people say about him, however, we cannot deny the passion he brings. After all, if you think that his Pels on-court outburst was his first one, you’re wrong.
JJ Redick had to tell everyone, “I’m not a zombie,” after his viral reaction to D’Angelo Russell’s missed shot went viral
Earlier this month, the Lakers went up against the Memphis Grizzlies. Things weren’t looking good for LA during the 3rd quarter, as they trailed 68-77. As a little over 6 minutes remained, D’Angelo Russell gained possession of the ball and shot a 3-pointer. Not only did the ball miss the basket, it didn’t even reach the rim. In fact, it didn’t even seem to reach halfway. As Memphis rushed to the other side with the ball, JJ was pictured in frustration, slamming his chair twice. Later, he stood up to call for a time-out.

Sure enough, it didn’t take long for the clip featuring the moment to go viral. It got to the point that Redick himself had to give a response. The 40-year-old stated that basketball is an ‘emotional game’ for him.

Therefore, JJ prepared fans possibly for more such incidents to come, stating, “I think about myself as a player, now as a coach, certainly when I watched NBA games and analyzed NBA games, I’m not a zombie. That’s like what we kind of refer to as non-passionate, non-competitive, non-expressive people. I’m not a zombie.”
Well, no one is asking JJ Redick to be a zombie. However, for the sake of the team’s wellbeing, maybe, he can avoid incidents that could lead to another technical foul.
