Fatherhood: one of the most important parts of a man’s life that earns him the ‘superhero’ title from his own blood. Especially for African American fathers, it is a great deal since 70% of Black fathers are more involved in their children’s lives, as per a 2013 National Statistics Report which aims at busting the age-old myth. NFL legend Deion Sanders also attempted to break this conjecture as he revealed the nuances and the best example he had was none other than LeBron James and Bronny James!
Recalling the first-hand experience from his past on Black fatherhood, Deion Sanders said on Outta Pocket podcast, “All the African American fathers that we grew up with, I used to watch them and see that connectivity that they had with their sons, and it was just so damn phenomenal man. I would mimic that.”
However, Sanders also confessed, being himself a former sports commentator, that Black fathers don’t have that chemistry with their sons on television anymore. And that’s why the Colorado Buffaloes coach added, “So now we turn to sports and we’re making a comeback.”

The first example in sports that Deion pulled out was LaVar Ball. The Big Baller Brand founder once said he would help his sons become NBA players by “speaking it into existence.” And he did! His son Lonzo Ball plays for the Lakers, while brothers LaMelo and LiAngelo went on to play for the Charlotte Hornets.
The same goes for LeBron James, who has been a point of criticism for making his son Bronny a Lakers rookie. But Sanders was full of praise for King James as he said, “You gotta give Bron love. You can say what you want. He’s been there. He’s supposed to pave the road for his baby.” And it’s not just Deion who is supporting Bronny James’ draft pick, as his daughter was there for the Lakers rookie on draft day.
Coach Prime’s daughter came in to support LeBron James’ son’s draft pick!
When the criticism circled Bronny’s draft entry because of his surname, undying help came around. When LeBron James’ son got picked up by the Lakers, Deion’s eldest daughter had nothing but support for him. Deiondra Sanders shared her happiness with an emotional note. “Bronny got drafted by the Lakers, “ she acknowledged the good news to the world once again.
“I love to see it lol. Y’all can’t tell me Legacies and last names dont matter, “ Deion’s daughter added to her message. Coach Prime is also in the limelight for guiding his kids, Shedeur and Shilo, into the upcoming league in 2025. That’s why fans call him the LeBron James of football since he is rooting for his kids on the public platform.

Also, James and Sanders’ family seem to have a good relationship. Reason? Shedeur and Travis Hunter attended the Lakers game at Denver last season. It’s not bad when fathers have to do their best for their sons. And if the successor is not worthy of it, he/she will collapse, eventually. It’s not us who get to decide what others should do.
