Preseason games are here. The off-season was a period of major drama and plot twists that rival a telenovela. With Harden clamoring for Clippers, Lillard snatched by the Bucks, Chris Paul’s arrival at the Warriors, Giannis’s hints at a trade, Jokic clueless of Coach Prime, Holiday up for grabs, and a lot more, it’s been one fun ride! The offseason was truly a rollercoaster ride. The LA Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors game is a classic.

The Lakers are a historically dominant force. 1980s and 2000 were periods of high for the team. The Warriors had a tough time, continually riding on season highs and lows throughout these timelines. But, 2010 saw the Warriors live up to their name.

The 1980s can very well be called the Laker Dynasty. The team had signed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and was looking to get Magic Johnson on board as well. This time would be popularly referred to as the Showtime Era. The 1990s saw Michael Jordan bulling his way to the top. They tried to get back by signing the legendary center Shaq, but it wouldn’t happen until 2000.?

Led by Bulls coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers would get back up with an elite team that included some of the top names like Bryant, O’Neal, Fisher, and Horry. This group got them 3 straight rings from 2000 to 2002. All this while, the Warriors were trying to keep their necks above water. Even though the 1980s saw the Warriors trying to establish themselves as a strong contender by getting the famed coach George Karl, the Lakers were destined to win. The 1987 NBA playoffs saw the Lakers taking over in a 4-1 victory over the Warriors. No one can forget this classic ‘Clash of the Titans’.

The Warriors take over

2006 provided somewhat of a respite for the Warriors in the form of Stephen Jackson, Matt Barnes, and Baron Davis. Yet, it wouldn’t be until 2010 that the Golden State hit gold with the draft picks. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green’s initiation provided them with an opportunity to emerge as title contenders. The Warriors would win their first title since 1975.?

?Andre Iguodala’s signing gave them straight tickets to five finals, out of which three were won. The Lakers’ signing of LeBron James in 2018 put them on top again. The rest we know is history in the making. Even with LeBron in LA and Curry in Golden State, both the teams had to face various issues for the first two years of the decade. The start of the 2022-23 season saw the Warriors get their competitiveness back, while the Lakers managed to enter the postseason as the seventh seed.?

The Lakers fan, though loyal, were disappointed since the 2021-22 season. The only relief was the LeBron-Davis duo. Davis was single-handedly responsible for a miraculous stretch in late November and early December. He averaged 32/15/3 over an eight-game stretch and recorded double-doubles over a 10-game span. A glimpse of a silver lining happened on the trade deadline. Pelinka traded Westbrook along with Beverly to acquire Russell, Vanderbilt, Beasley, and Bamba. A relatively young team, this change in the roster immediately reflected in the postseason. The Lakers became the first No. 7 seed to spring an opening-round upset since the San Antonio Spurs did so in 2010. And just like that, LeBron and co. are back in the game.

The Warriors, on the other hand, are in a back-and-forth situation. But two of the greatest point guards are part of the Warriors. Stephen Curry?averaged 29.4 points, 6.3 assists, and 6.1 rebounds in 56 games in 2022-23. With CP3 joining them, we are looking at another title in the Warrior’s name. Paul was on the rougher end of his career prior to joining Curry’s team, averaging a career-low 13.9 points per game to go along with 8.9 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 59 games. With Curry responsible for the ball handling, Chris will have a lighter load.
