By May 2025, there will be a new Curry in town… or let’s say, Curry-Lee. In case you didn’t notice, Stephen Curry‘s sister, Sydel, is rocking her baby bump at five months into her pregnancy. She and her husband, Phoenix Suns star Damion Lee, are expecting their third child together after their son Daxon (2021) and daughter Daryn (2025). But guess what? Sydel had her mother, Sonya Curry, put at ‘fault’ for that! Now imagine the reason.

It is for a desire Sonya had in her heart. “lol she’s always wanted me to have a third and I was adamant on no no no. But you know what they say about a praying grandmother 😅😂 Baby 3 will be her 10th grandchild 🥰” Sydel had hilariously revealed last month. Sonya is not unaware of the toll this takes on a woman’s body. She can not forget how she wanted to absorb all of Sydel’s pains when the latter was in labor with her first child. Despite that, Sonya can not be happier. And that is not just because her wish of being 10x granny was fulfilled.

Sonya described the joy of watching her grandchildren unfold their personalities. It’s a luxury she did not have with her three kids. “I don’t think I took time to really, really soak it in with my own children, because we were busy raising them,” she had said. “I kind of remember things here and there, but I don’t really just remember just soaking in them and enjoying them like the grand babies,” she had confessed. And who could have been better than Sydel to fulfill that wish? After all, she had only two, while her brothers Stephen and Seth had their hands full with four and three children respectively! But wait, Sydel did not budge so easily. In fact, she was borderline furious with Sonya. On The Travis Hearn Podcast Sonya opened up about that exchange between the mother-daughter duo.

Sonya mentioned that nearly months back she told her daughter, “I hope you all have one more. Maybe two.” However, Sydel wasn’t too keen on the idea. She gave her mother a deadly look. “She’s like, ‘mom’; like, gave me the look of death,” Sonya added. “She sent me right to hell on that one. And she’s like, ‘no. I’m done… I’m finished breastfeeding Daryn.'”

Sonya also shared that Sydel has given away her maternity clothes and got back in shape. So, going through another pregnancy was something she didn’t want at the time. “I just looked at her and I said, well, you know, I’m praying for her. And she said, ‘Well, I’m praying that I don’t have any’,” Sonya added.

But fate clearly had something else planned for Sydel and Damion Lee. “So when they found out, she called me and she said, well, I guess He loves you more than me.” Considering Sonya’s devout faith, it’s clear that God listened to her prayers. Not to mention, the upcoming child is set to be the perfect birthday gift, as it is expected to be born just five days before Sonya Curry’s birthday. But as her wishes are looking to be fulfilled, Sonya is keeping no stone unturned to play her roles as a mother and a grandmom.

Last month, Sydel gave a glimpse of how she had been struggling with her motherhood journey, already having two small kids. She shared two pictures. In one, she was lying on the bed, looking devastated, as she wrote, “I am sick. Pregnant. And Tired. No Nonsense Sydel RARELY comes out on social media but Mess me with if you want.” In the other picture, Sydel’s son Daxon was seen happily sitting on Sonya’s lap. “Thank GOD above for Grashi holding it down for me this weekend! Don’t know what I’d do without ya!” Sydel wrote. Indeed, Sonya looks more invested in her grandchildren. Look how she had identified the talent of one of them.

Referring to Carter’s [Seth’s son] near-perfect jump shot, Sonya had said, “It’s accurate every single time. Like, we’re not kidding! … There’s a gene.” But despite once saying “You think you love your kids until they have kids,” she also knows very well about how her children are different from each other.

Mother Sonya reveals the unique natures of Stephen Curry and his siblings

The Curry siblings are like any ordinary siblings, teasing each other and keeping their relationship healthy. When Mama was asked to describe their personalities, she quickly labeled Stephen Curry as the one smart enough to avoid conflicts. “He would try to talk,” she said.

Sydel Curry-Lee, on the other hand, wasn’t exactly the patient type. Sonya said, “I think my daughter is 50-50.” She further added, “She’s like, just make just press the right button and you just don’t know which button you push, what you’re gonna get on that day.”

Whereas, Sonya mentioned that Seth Curry was the one who needed a closer eye. “I think with my middle son because he’s so quiet, that I think the quiet ones are the ones you have to watch.” Despite their different personalities, Mrs. Curry loves all her children equally but not more than her grandchildren.

For now, the proud granny is eagerly waiting for May 25th to welcome her 10th grandchild. Hopefully this time her dream will be fulfilled unless, of course, she has some more prayers to offer.
