Is Paul George's injury-prone nature a curse for the Sixers' championship dreams?

The Philadelphia 76ers hit rock bottom and they keep discovering themselves slipping further down. A common phenomenon has occurred again. Paul George is injured. He just made his debut almost a fortnight ago. In the second quarter of the Sixers’ game against the Grizzlies, PG-13 shockingly went down with an ankle injury. He rolled his ankle while attempting to grab a rebound. After taking a few steps, the veteran was helped off the floor, and the team called for a timeout less than a minute into the second half.

Medical staff attended to Paul George, and the hoopster was escorted straight to the locker room. On the positive side, he was able to walk under his own power, though, it remains unclear whether he will return to the game. The newcomer had been out since he hyperextended his left knee in preseason just over a month ago. And now, fans are once again concerned for the 6-foot-8 forward.

On November 4, George took to the court with the Sixers for the first time, facing off against the Suns. Although he only managed 15 points with a tough 29% shooting performance, he had been averaging 14 points and 39% shooting before linking up with Joel Embiid.

The duo finally teamed up last Tuesday against the Knicks, and then Paul George showed his true potential. He exploded for 29 points, knocking down 7 of 11 3-point attempts, marking his best performance of the season. However, now fans are again concerned for the 6-foot-8 forward.

Another injury for PG makes fans question his luck and send prayers his way

One user tweeted “Hoping Paul George is okay. Wishing him a speedy recovery. The game won’t be the same without him! *praying hands*”. The Sixers are having a rough time. Both their biggest stars are not healthy. It was only 17 days since he debuted and he could be out once again for an extended run. Just when the Sixers finally got their Big 3 playing together, they lost George to another injury.

PG had just hyperextended his left knee a month ago and has injured the same foot again. One user wrote, “Hoping for a speedy recovery—prayers up for PG! *praying hands* *fist*”. He had already missed the first five games because of a bone bruise in his left knee. On top of that, he missed another game because the team opted for injury management — meaning the veteran was sidelined during the second night of a back-to-back. Even with such caution, he got injured, again.

Meanwhile, the Sixers are off to a rough start. Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong with them. One netizen tweeted, “Another injury. Rough start for them“. The $100k fine first, then the presser incident with Joel Embiid and Marcus Hayes, then the worst record in the NBA, Tyrese Maxey’s injury, and PG’s injuries. Despite their careful approach to managing the stars’ health, the game has a way of throwing curveballs. It’s a reminder that, on the court, anything can happen at any moment.

George is one of the best players in the NBA, but injuries have plagued him. Expressing their frustration, one user wrote, “Damn, hate to see it”. Injuries have prevented PG-13 from fully tapping into his potential. However, he has adapted by refining his shooting and shot-creating abilities, compensating for the decline in his athleticism. But it still makes you wonder what he could’ve been.

Paul George has had a long list of injuries starting from 2014. Another netizen tweeted, “Nah bro. What is his luck man”. George’s career had taken a major hit during the 2014 offseason when he suffered a devastating leg injury while playing in a Team USA showcase game. This setback kept him out for nearly all of the 2014-15 season, with him only appearing in six games. For George, it’s been a series of setbacks. Shoulder, elbow, and knee injuries have significantly slowed him down in recent years.

Now 34, Paul George has seen his once-dominant athleticism and explosiveness diminish. It’s a tough reality for a hoopster who was once nearly unstoppable in his prime years with the Pacers. We hope he recovers from this setback as well.
