While the Celtics continue to have an incredible season, Kristaps Porzingis’ health is gradually turning into a major concern for them. Well, the big man has suited up only three times since the All-Star break. The reason? A mysterious non-COVID illness, that the Boston team is having a hard time figuring out the root cause of. Even tonight, KP missed his sixth straight game because of it. As panic sets in among the Celtics’ fanbase, Porzingis broke silence on his health with a worrying message.
“I have been dealing with some viral illness that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet. I am recovering and getting better. But still working my way back to full strength to help this team. Thanks for support and I’m hoping for a healthy return soon,” He tweeted.
Yes, Porzingis and the Cs are doing their best to fight this unknown illness, but it looks like a comeback is still far.

Even Joe Mazzulla seemed concerned about his health in a recent interview. “He’s sick. He’s coming into the facility every day trying to get shots up, sweat it out. He’s just not feeling well. He is working to get back.” Well, Kristaps did return for one game toward the end of last month, against the Pistons. But he looked like a shell of himself on the court, finishing with only 11 points on an abysmal four of eleven shooting.
Moreover, the Celtics ended up losing that game. And KP took accountability for his underwhelming performance, “Just a bad game, to be honest. Me especially. I was terrible tonight… We didn’t rebound the ball well—especially myself. So, definitely have to take some accountability and be better.” It was clear that the illness was bothering him, as Porzingis grabbed only two rebounds that night, much lower than his season average of 6.8. So, the best option for him was to go on a hiatus again and focus on his recovery.
Sure enough, KP’s latest tweet has left the hoop community concerned.
NBA World urges Kristaps Porzingis to “Rest Up and Get Well” as Playoff availability remains major goal
Soon after the Latvian star’s tweet, fans began praying for his speedy recovery as comments like “Heal up big guy!” and “Rest up and get well KP” began flooding in. Of course, Porzingis is a key part of the Celtics’ rotation, averaging 18.9 points and nearly two blocks this season. And the fans want to see him back soon.

Meanwhile, one netizen highlighted KP’s injury prone nature while wishing him well, “I swear KP You’d get hurt in a Pillow fight. Get well soon!”

Apart from the ongoing illness, Porzingis also suffered a rare foot injury last year that delayed his start to this season. He has missed a ton of games so far because of such injury woes, and people are beginning to notice the pattern. While the Center is working toward his recovery, Celtics fans are just praying that he is available for the playoffs if not during the regular season. One wrote, “As long as u ready for the playoffs we all good dude. Rest up and get to 100%” while another said, “We good right now bro. But mid /lateApril, playoffs – live in a bubble bro we gonna need you.”

Well, the Cs have enough depth right now to hold on to the second seed. And there is little to no chance that they will overtake the Cavs, who are seven wins ahead. So, with their seeding nearly a lock, there is no need for Porzingis to rush his return. However, they will need him in the playoffs to boost their chances of winning another championship. Obviously, everyone knows how crucial he can be in the postseason as we saw during last year’s title run.
Hopefully, the Boston franchise identifies Porzingis’ illness soon so that he can return to make the team even more lethal than it already is.
