MSG Network needed a fill-in for their New York Knicks broadcasts during an extended road trip last year in November, and they turned to a familiar face. Three-time Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford stepped in as the color commentator, temporarily replacing the legendary Walt “Clyde” Frazier. Crawford made his broadcasting debut on 21st November night when the Knicks kicked off their trip against the Phoenix Suns.
Crawford’s reunion with the Knicks felt like it was written in the stars. A fan favorite from his playing days, he returned to MSG—this time with a microphone instead of a handle. His smooth analysis and deep love for the game made his short stint special, but now, his time with the network has come to an end.
Crawford’s run with MSG came to a close as he called his final game during the Knicks’ matchup against the Blazers. As the broadcast wrapped up, Mike Breen took a moment to thank Crawford for his time in the booth. Crawford later responded on X, writing, “Forever grateful 🙏🏾! What an honor to work with a GIANT in the game. Thank you, MSG!”

Crawford’s exit didn’t go unnoticed, and fans quickly took to social media to share their thoughts. From praising his smooth analysis to calling for his permanent return, Knicks faithful had plenty to say about his brief but memorable stint in the booth.
Fans feel Jamal Crawford should’ve been a permanent stay at MSG
One fan couldn’t hide their disappointment, posting, “No more Jamal Crawford this season!? Dude has crushed it. Please come back next season @JCrossover!!!!” It’s a reaction that perfectly captures how quickly Knicks fans embraced Crawford in the booth. His smart commentary, effortless charisma, and deep understanding of the game made him an instant fan favorite.
There’s a reason he was this good. Crawford has been a familiar voice on TNT Sports, calling games and regularly appearing on its studio shows for the past two seasons, especially during Tuesday night broadcasts.
One fan reacted to the news, posting, “Knicks should’ve locked up Jamal Crawford before he signed wit NBC, he’s the goods.” With NBC and Peacock launching their massive 11-year, nearly $27 billion NBA deal next season, securing top-tier talent like Crawford was a no-brainer. He’s expected to call at least one game per week when coverage begins in October 2025, solidifying his role as a key voice for the network.
What’s your perspective on:
Did MSG miss a golden opportunity by not securing Jamal Crawford as a permanent commentator?
Have an interesting take?
Knicks fans, who quickly grew fond of his sharp eye and natural chemistry in the booth, are left wondering what could’ve been if MSG had locked him in first.
Another frustrated netizen chimed in with, “THIS IS THE LAST JAMAL CRAWFORD GAME HE’S CALLING THIS YEAR FAWKKKKKKKKK.” Honestly, who can blame them? The Knicks went a perfect 7-0 with Crawford in the booth—maybe MSG should’ve signed him as a lucky charm instead.
One fan made their feelings clear, posting, “Jamal Crawford needs to be on MSG for Knicks games way more. Such a delight and already better than most others that fill in for Mike Breen and Clyde. Make it work.”

Crawford’s brief stint in the booth left a lasting impression, with many already ranking him above other MSG substitutes like Alan Hahn and Wally Szczerbiak. During CBS’ halftime coverage of UConn vs. Providence, Wally Szczerbiak made an awkward blunder while analyzing Penn State’s game against Maryland.
With the Nittany Lions holding a slim lead, he mistakenly credited the wrong head coach. It makes sense why the fan want Crawford to stay.

One fan voiced what many Knicks supporters are thinking, posting, “Would love to have Jamal Crawford back on MSG next season.” Given how effortlessly he fit into the booth, it’s no surprise fans want him back.
While his upcoming role with NBC Sports in 2025 means he’ll be a key part of their NBA coverage, that doesn’t necessarily rule out a return to MSG in some capacity. With NBC’s deal allowing for flexibility, there’s always a chance Crawford could make a guest appearance. For now, Knicks fans will have to wait and see—but one thing’s clear, his presence in the booth left a lasting impression.
