Sunday’s Warriors vs Rockets clash proved why Stephen Curry is still one of the most lethal offensive players in the league. The Bay Area team headed to Houston, hoping to win the playoffs opener on the road and gain a massive edge in the series. Like a true leader, Steph took charge, dropping 31 points against West’s second-seeded team. Sure enough, the Warriors won. But it seemingly took a lot out of Curry. Yes, the Baby-Faced Assassin was hurt!
After the dominant win, Steph showed up to the post-game presser with a concerning look. His right hand was completely ice-wrapped. Looks like he re-aggravated the thumb injury he suffered a couple of weeks ago during the Blazers encounter. The incident occurred when Curry jammed his thumb on Justin Manaya’s knee. Fortunately, the blow did not sideline him that night. But he played the rest of the game with his hand wrapped. As expected, it affected his performance, as Steph scored only 14 points on 6 of 14 shooting.

If his old injury has resurfaced, it could mean trouble for the Warriors. There are still three more games left to win to advance to the next round, and it will be a massive challenge if Steph is not 100%. Also, the Rockets could exploit this weakness and use it to their advantage. Well, they have been extremely physical while guarding Curry, because that’s the only way to limit his offense. In Game 1, Ime Udoka’s squad was constantly hugging and grabbing Steph to tire him out.
Despite that, the Warriors’ star made five deep-range threes and led his team to victory. But he might be unable to do it again with an injured thumb. Moreover, his latest visual adds to Dub Nation’s concerns, who were already worried after Steph’s recent clip.
Stephen Curry’s unusual practice video raises concerns as Warriors star relies on his versatility amid adversity
Even before his post-game look of an ice wrap around his hand, Steph had the fans worried. It happened after a video of his practice session surfaced online. The clip shows him missing four consecutive wide-open threes, something that’s as rare as a blue moon. As expected, it had Dub Nation worried about Steph’s thumb bothering his shooting stroke. And those concerns will only grow knowing that the injury was re-aggravated on Sunday.

However, the four-time champ might be able to play through the pain like he did in Game 1. During the post-game interview, he highlighted how he was able to break the Rockets’ physical defense, “I knew I was going to score three points for sure, but I think the first three shots I missed, and then I understood they were going to really try to take away the three. And I got to the basket three in a row.” Yes, Steph’s offensive versatility and deep bag left the Houston defenders confused.
He continued, “They play a tough brand of defense. But if you just play smart and allow my endurance to take over, you know, over the course of the game, I think I get freed up and you just got to make shots. I made some tough ones, but I think you got to keep them honest.” Hopefully, he will be able to do the same for the rest of the series despite the injury scare. Because that might be the only way for the Warriors to eliminate the young Rockets squad. Thoughts?
