Knicks fans still talk about the 1994 Eastern Conference Semifinals — and not just for the basketball. In Game 5 against the Pacers, with 25.1 seconds left and Indiana trailing by two, Reggie Miller pulled off one of the most iconic playoff sequences: a three-pointer, a steal, another three. Just like that, the Pacers had the lead.
Then came that infamous moment — Miller turning to Spike and flashing the choke gesture. It was petty, theatrical, unforgettable. It etched itself into NBA lore and cemented Spike Lee’s courtside presence as more than just celebrity flair — it was part of the story.
Fast forward to now, and nothing’s changed.

At the start of the fourth quarter tonight, with tensions high and Josh Hart arguing a call, there was Spike — animated, vocal, and right there in the ref’s ear, backing his guy like only he can. ESPN cameras caught every second.

After all, it’s his beloved Knicks playing a heated Eastern Conference rival in the Boston Celtics. But we’re sure Spike Lee left the MSG, happy as could be after tonight’s result. After an iffy first half against the reigning champs, his Knicks dominated the Celtics in the second half, putting 70 on the board. And now, they lead the series 3-1. Even the Celtics’ star duo will know it’s a daunting task.
Speaking of whom, Lee will also be over the moon because of Jayson Tatum‘s injury. No, we’re not saying Lee will enjoy Tatum getting hurt. But the Celtics missing the player who scored 42 of their 113 points tonight in Game 5 will definitely be a boost to Lee and the Knicks’ morale!
Sadly, we probably won’t see Spike at the TD Garden during Game 5 sporting the Knicks’ iconic colors. But we’d say he more than made up for that with his MET Gala outfit this year. Even if it meant missing Game 1 against the Celtics.

Spike Lee reps the Knicks at the 2025 MET Gala
The MET Gala is about making a statement — not with words, though. It’s your outfit that does the talking. And this year at the MET Gala, Spike Lee’s outfit screamed only one thing — “I LOVE THE NEW YORK KNICKS!”
The legendary director showed up to the Met Gala wearing a black sports coat, oversized trousers, and a pair of Air Jordan 3 Black Cats. But his headwear? Now, that was what truly turned heads. Lee wore a New York Knicks hat in the team’s iconic orange and blue. So, while the Knicks were going 1-0 against Boston at the TD Garden, Spike was holding down the fort and making waves at the Met.

Now, this year’s theme for the world-renowned Gala was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”. And the celebrity chairs this year were as A-list as it gets. Vogue’s Anna Wintour, who always hosts this event, was joined by Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, and A$AP Rocky. Lakers superstar LeBron James was slated to be an honorary chair for this year’s event. However, after suffering a knee injury in the series against Minnesota, he had to skip this year’s MET Gala.
Nonetheless, much like Savannah James represented her husband at this year’s gala, Spike Lee repped his team at the biggest fashion event in the world. You can accuse Spike Lee of being a lot of things. But no one can ever question his love for the New York Knicks!
