The mission for the Golden State Warriors for this season was clear. They wanted to make a final push to get Stephen Curry his 5th ring as he winds down his career. They brought in Jimmy Butler. And he’s been incredible for them, turning them into legitimate contenders. However, after game 2 against the Houston Rockets, that dream may have crashed and burned.

After Draymond Green seemingly pushed Amen Thompson into a falling Jimmy Butler’s path, things got pretty dire for the newly acquired Dubs star. Landing hard and awkwardly on his tailbone, Butler seemed to be in agonizing pain. And now, thanks to the efforts of ESPN’s Sham Charania, we know how bad this injury truly is.

“Golden State’s Jimmy Butler has been diagnosed with a deep glute muscle contusion and his status for Game 3 against the Houston Rockets is in serious, league sources tell ESPN,” wrote Shams in an Instagram post. This is best case because MRI showed Jimmy Butler avoided any fracture or structural damage,” he added in the caption.

While Jimmy having no fractures is good news, his pelvic contusion being serious isn’t. These injuries take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks to heal. And given Jimmy’s contusion is serious, he may be on the sidelines for the rest of this series against the Rockets. And that’s a crushing prospect for the Golden State Warriors.

After all, before Jimmy’s trade, the Warriors looked finished. After the start they had to their season, any hopes of challenging for a title also looked to be dead in the water. But Jimmy’s arrival helped them get on the right track. Sadly, Steph’s dream may be over if Jimmy cannot return for the upcoming games in this series.

And wow, fans are not happy about it! Esocially, the ones voicing their frustrations online. So here are some of the best reactions we found to Shams Charania’s update on Jimmy Butler.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Draymond Green's actions just cost the Warriors their shot at another championship?

Dub Nation in tatters as Jimmy Butler update puts Steph Curry’s dream in jeopardy

Faas were quick to blame someone for this injury to Jimmy Buckets. “Draymond continues to piss me off man,” commented on user. While another wrote, “All my homies hate Amen!!!”  Now, it’s hard to say who’s really at fault here. One angle shows that Green tripped Thompson and that’s why he fell into Jimmy Butler’s path. Another angle showed that Draymond seemingly had nothing to do with Thompson’s fall. And that corroborates the notion that Amen is a dirty. While it’s nearly impossible to say who’s at fault, it’s still clear that the injury to Butler was needless.

Following this worrying update, a lot of the Dub Nation thinks the update has dashed their title hopes. “Without Jimmy buckets the warriors are cooked,” wrote one fan on Instagram.  Another wasn’t as broken up about the Warriors losing one of their best players and possibly this series, though.  “Yessssssss 😂😂😂😂😂 bye bye warriors,” said their comment. The prevailing sentiment seems to be that the Warriors can’t really get it done without Jimmy.

And considering the turnaround in the Dubs’ fortune following his signing, it’s not something you can argue. After all, the Dubs were 15-15 in their first 30 games this season. With Jimmy in the team, they have a 23-7 record. If Jimmy can’t make it back soon, the Warriors’ season may be over.

However, a section of the fanbase believed Jimmy would play despite the serious nature of his injury. “He is playing! Playoff Jimmy is different,” wrote one Instagram user. Another agreed with them, writing, “It’s Jimmy we all know he’ll suit up.” While Playoff Jimmy Butler may be a different beast, injuries are still injuries. And everyone needs some time to recover.

However, their claims may not be entirely devoid of truth. You see, pelvic contusions, after a certain point, become all about pain management. Dr. Nirav Pandya of UCSF asserted this when he talked about Steph Curry, who suffered a similar injury in March. So it is possible that Butler, being the savage he is, plays through the pain to help out his team.

Nonetheless, we’ll only find out in the coming days how Jimmy Butler recovers from this injury. However, as things stand, things don’t look good for Steph Curry and his hopes for a 5th ring…
