The Dub Nation loves Draymond Green – but that’s about all the fans he has. The rest of the NBA wants his head on a stick. And why? A multitude of reasons – his relentless roughness on the court being the biggest one. But it’s not just that – it’s the complaints about him having an angel on his side, giving him the green light to do as he pleases.
Going into Game 3 against the Timberwolves, Green had five technical fouls and two flagrant fouls. Players receive a one-game suspension after their seventh playoff technical and a one-game suspension after accumulating four flagrant points- and it’s just the third game of the semis. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst spoke about this extensively. There’s word on the street is that the complaint is true, and people do believe he gets away with everything.
Here is what Windy said: “By the way, that’s a big complaint across the league that Draymond gets away with stuff after he commits a flagrant and after he commits a technical. And sometimes even after he gets five fouls, there’s a belief that Draymond actually gets too much leeway. This is not my word. This is what people tell me.”

Of course, Draymond won’t go down without a fight. He’s clapped back at the haters, calling it an agenda against his head for the sake of it. “I’m not an angry Black man. I’m a very successful, educated Black man with a great family, and I’m great at basketball, I’m great at what I do. The agenda to try to keep making me look like an angry Black man is crazy. I’m sick of it. It’s ridiculous,” said Green after Game 2.
But this is a story that will never end, unless one side concedes. Draymond Green has a lot more to lose, and will still never back down- which says a lot about the duality of the situation. On the other hand, Windy did mention the refs being by his side, which could bring a lot of heat to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
Brian Windhorst claims the refs are on Draymond Green’s side
The refs work under Adam Silver. His say goes. And this has been the case forever. So naturally, their officiating will bring heat from the commish. To be honest, the refs have been under their own deal of scrutiny, with some fans claiming the officiating this season to be the worst in a long time. Could this be the reason Windy says that Adam Silver could have a hand in this?

“They say he gets away with too much stuff because the referees don’t want to be the one who rejects him or calls a flagrant on a second flagrant on him because they know that there’s going to be an onslaught. That’s a perception of opponents out there, not necessarily my mind,” said Brian Windhorst on ESPN.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Draymond Green truly a victim of bias, or does he get away with too much?
Have an interesting take?
This wouldn’t make too much sense – Silver’s been more than vocal about Draymond Green’s history with fouls. The main one was in December 2023, when the Warriors center delivered a spinning back-fist to Suns center Jusuf Nurkic, prompting an indefinite suspension by Silver’s office. This left Silver “no choice”, even to the point of mandating counseling, check-ins, and even talking him out of retirement – actions Green credits with reshaping his career.

Maybe Adam Silver getting involved was a bit of a stretch. If the refs are looking to avoid onslaughts, this could be a personal perception problem. But this drama is far from over, and Dray never backs down from a fight, right?
