The Dallas Mavericks faced off against one of their division rivals, the San Antonio Spurs. And while fans were eager for the regular season to start, what the NBA world was even more eager to see was Victor Wembanyama in action. And the French sensation certainly did not disappoint in the limited minutes that he played on the court. 

When asked Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic about his matchup with Victor Wembanyama, the Mavs All-Star referred to it as a fun challenge in the post-game interview while talking to the press.

The entire NBA community got to see the NBA’s best prospect in action today. Victor Wembanyama put up impressive numbers in the limited minutes he played due to foul trouble today.

During the post-game interview, Doncic was asked about facing off against Wembanyama for the first time. The Slovenian basketball star said, “It was fun. We knew the whole building was going to be loud and everything.”

“He’s probably one of the best prospects to enter the NBA. So, it was fun. For me, personally, I like challenges, so that was a fun challenge.”

The Mavericks star had an amazing opening night, notching a triple-double. Doncic scored 33 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 steals for the game. He had a slow outing from the three-point line but the final score made up for it.

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the San Antonio Spurs with a final score of 126-119. One of the deciding factors of the game was the Mavericks’ second unit which was a huge help off the bench.

Wembanyama certainly did not disappoint

The world got to see what Victor Wembanayama could do on the basketball court. Though fans had already seen a glimpse of it in the preseason, but this opening night matchup was the real deal for many. Given that Wembanayama faced off against two All-Stars.

The 7’4 giant dealt with foul trouble which limited his minutes on the court. But in the 23 minutes he played, he took nine shots, making six of them. These truly are great numbers from the number one pick in this year’s draft.

One thing fans were left wondering is, what would his debut night performance have turned out to be if Wembanyama wasn’t in foul trouble. Let’s see if Wemby is able to stay out of foul trouble and spend more time on the floor in their next matchup.
