Tyrese Maxey hasn’t given up yet! Despite the Philadelphia 76ers suffering their 8th straight loss in the NBA this season, Maxey remains unflappable in the face of this extreme adversity. But even so, he can’t do it without his team’s support. So he had a few thoughts when asked whether the Sixers’ season was over. His response broke a lot of Philly fans’ hearts.

Maxey revealed his mindset heading into every Philly game. “Every time I lace my shoes up, I lace my shoes up to win. And that’s just how I feel,” he said, sounding morose. He continued, “I’m never gonna sit here and lace my shoes up and be expected to lose. That’s just not how I’m wired., that’s not how I play basketball. That’s not how I live my life,” Maxey finished.

Maxey sounded jaded in the clip posted by PHLY Sixers’ Derek Bodner. And fans under the post sympathized with the youngster who’s been the only silver lining in this dark time for Philly. “Ruining his legacy man 💔,” wrote one fan. It’s clear that the fans feel the Sixers are letting Maxey down. And they’re right to feel this way.

Maxey put the team on his back this season, averaging 27.4 points and 38 minutes played this season in 48 games. However, no other player has broken the 20-point mark for the Sixers this season. Well, Joel Embiid has but he’s only played 19 games. So it’s not difficult to see why the fan feels this way. It does come off as if Maxey is the only one trying to win games for the Sixers.

But like Tyrese said, he isn’t one to give up so easily. And he had a message for his team. One that he hopes can help them snap them out of this disastrous run they are on.

Tyrese Maxey urges his teammates to “be competitive” as he looks to inspire a turnaround in their fortunes

Amid this turmoil in the City of Brotherly Love, Tyrese Maxey is still holding onto hope. Maxey put out a message to his team intending to help them get back on track. But fans didn’t share his opinion as they bemoaned the state of affairs at the 76ers. Let’s hear what Maxey said to the PHLY Sixers first.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tyrese Maxey the only one fighting for the Sixers, or is the team letting him down?

“We all started playing basketball because we loved the game, and it’s fun. And a lot of us should be competitive…I play the game because I’m extremely competitive and I like to win. And I got a lot of pride about winning, and just putting forth the effort that I put in, and that we do as a group. So when we step out on the court, we gotta go out there and show that,” said Maxey in an attempt to motivate his teammates and pull the Sixers out of the quagmire they find themselves in.

However, fans were upset that it had come to this with Maxey having to urge his teammates to win. “This s— p— me off so bad. My young king maxey,” wrote an X user lamenting the fact that Tyrese found himself in such a position. After all, one of the brightest talents in the NBA should not have to beg his teammates to show up during games.

Moreover, Maxey’s pride as a serial winner takes a hit every time his team lets him down.  “Feel bad he has to deal with this organization,” said another fan who empathized with Maxey’s plight. The Sixers have only won once this season in the absence of their star guard. It was evident that they couldn’t win without him but now they’re struggling to win even with him firing on all cylinders.

However, it seems as though this constant maximum effort is causing Maxey to lose steam as we enter the latter half of the regular season. And 0ne fan thinks the Sixers should give up on this season and let Maxey rest for a while. The fan wrote, “they should rest his legs for the rest of the year too…he’s a winner and for the rest of this season thats a bad thing.” Maxey has been a little inconsistent in the last few games. He scored 31 points against the Brooklyn Nets but hasn’t broken the 20-point barrier in 4 out of his last 5 games.  It’s clear that carrying the team is taking its toll on him.

Maybe the fans are right in thinking that the Philadelphia 76ers’ season is over. But it doesn’t seem like young Tyrese Maxey is giving in anytime soon. We just hope he doesn’t burn out in this pursuit and the Sixers as an organization can show the same level of belief as their star player!
