As the trade deadline draws nearer, the Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray‘s future might take a different turn. We have heard of both the Knicks and the Lakers setting their eyes on Dejounte, among other teams. Now get ready for a new contender in the market. As per sources, the point guard could fit like a glove in Philadelphia, complementing Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. In Atlanta, Dejounte is reduced to the SG position, but according to Philly Inquirer‘s Keith Pompey, that could change with the Sixers. In other words, he can resume his PG position if he lands in Philly.
Keith took to X to share his two cents on the matter, “DeJounte Murray is a better fit in the backcourt with the Sixers standout Tyrese Maxey than he’s been with Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young, who dominates the ball. In Philly, Murray could go back to his natural point-guard position. That would enable Maxey to play off the ball more, allowing him to just focus on scoring.”
He adds that De’Anthony Melton would drop to a reserve role, and the Sixers would also have more depth at the guard position. Therefore, the idea is for the Sixers to seriously pursue Dejounte.

But where do the Hawks stand in all this? Well, it is obvious that they are trying to restructure the roster and rebuild it around 2X NBA All-Star Trae Young. In this process, they have realized that the current pairing of Young and Murray isn’t working out. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise if they do not hesitate to let go of Murray.

The Sixers need to lock their target on Dejounte and make a move as soon as possible. His name is creating a huge buzz for other teams; so Philly needs to make an enticing offer to the Hawks and make it quick. The 24-year-old guard’s cap amount this season is $18.2 million. After this year, he will still be under contract for four years and $120 million.

If Atlanta determines that it would be better to waive his contract and acquire some picks, Philly does have some expiring contracts to offer. Everything seems to line up for the Sixers to secure Dejounte too. Their goal is to have enough cap space this summer to sign Maxey and a high-profile player to big deals. Naturally, they might pursue Dejounte if they think he fits the high-profile tag. For now, it looks like they are taking it slow, but considering that the deadline is approaching, they need to consider all odds and ramp it up.
