Is the 76ers star right to object to Hield's claim, or is he just being insecure?

The Golden State Warriors didn’t take a second to replace their backcourt dynamics. Gone are the days of the Splash Brothers with Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. Now it’s time for a renovated tandem. The Bay added sharpshooter Buddy Hield from the Philadelphia 76ers. Just for context, in the 2019-20 season, no one but Hield had more threes than Curry.

The Dub Nation already has a name for the duo. They are being called the Splash Buddies. The newest Warriors was questioned about the newly coined nickname. “I don’t see nothing wrong with it,” the former Kings guard said. He was further asked about his reaction to playing alongside Stephen Curry, the most acclaimed shooter of all time. Hield ranks only behind the Chef for most seasons with at least 250+ threes. That meant Hield was the most successful shooter in any team setting he has been in.

But when facing a man with over 3000 threes and counting, even Buddy Hield had to concede. “For the first time in my life I’m not the best shooter on my team,” the 31-year-old made it known. The only man he named who contested for the title in the past was Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton. This didn’t sit well with Tyrese Maxey.

“EHHHHH” he wrote accompanied by a few emoticons on X responding to his former Sixers teammates’ comments.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the 76ers star right to object to Hield's claim, or is he just being insecure?

Have an interesting take?

The blooming star of Philadelphia has some force behind his astonishment. Maxey is coming off a career season averaging 25.9 points and dragging the 76ers to the postseason with Embiid missing a chunk of the season. His shooting was among his prominent traits. Philly fans can still remember his game-tying shot against the Knicks in the playoffs. He shot 37.3% from range, which is just margins below Hield’s numbers.

However, considering the volume and defensive pressure Maxey had to endure, the 23-year-old was allowed to feel somewhat ignored by Buddy Hield in the conversation.

Paul George wanted to play with Stephen Curry and not Maxey?

Hield moving to the Warriors was an interesting move. But it was far from the biggest move of the summer, which had to be Paul George signing with the Philadelphia 76ers. He joins a team with an MVP frontrunner, Joel Embiid, and Maxey, who just won the MIP award. His versatility and two-way prowess have the entire city reeling. Even Maxey joined the celebrations.

“He’s a guy that you can pick up and plug into any system because of his talent. He’s 6’9″, he can shoot the ball, rebound the ball, pass the ball well. Play on the ball, play off the ball, play off hand-offs, play in transition. The sky is the limit,” he said about his newest teammate.

The trade instantly places Philly as one of the leading contenders for the championship next season. But should it have been Golden State? According to Adrian Wojnarowski, PG13’s choice of destination was always the Warriors. Sadly, the Clippers, who are their rivals in the conference, refused to provide arms to their foes and eventually offered George to the Sixers.

Imagine if Paul George had been given the green light, would it have meant the rise of another Bay area dynasty? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
