You’ve heard of Bob Myers, right? Of course you have! He’s the architect of the Golden State Warriors dynasty that won 4 championships between 2014 and 2022? Well, what if Bob suddenly decided to make the move to Philly to join the Philadelphia 76ers? That’s exactly what’s happening right now. Well … not necessarily in that order.

According to insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, league sources tell him the 76ers are set to bring Myers into their front office. “Philadelphia 76ers are currently the frontrunners to land Bob Myers in a front-office role a league source tells me,” he wrote on X.

See what I mean? If the Sixers can convince Myers to join their front office, they will have a professional who has championship experience as well as being named the NBA Executive of the Year twice. It’s all about the pitch!

And yet, it might not be so easy. “While other teams, including the Brooklyn Nets, have interest, Philly’s currently in the lead,” Scoop added. It seems if the Sixers want to seal the deal, they’ll need to channel the same relentless energy their fans are known for.

The Phoenix Suns also reportedly tried to bring Myers into the fold. But it seems a trusted source told Robinson that the Suns would not be pursuing Myers. “No. There are enough agents in the front office,” was the reason.

This spells trouble for the man currently at the helm of the Sixers’ front office, Daryl Morey. However, fans and analysts have been calling for Morey’s replacement for quite some time now. And it’s not like Morey has the accolades with the Sixers to argue otherwise. That said, Myers is as good a replacement as they can get.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Bob Myers the savior the 76ers need, or is it too late for a turnaround?

Have an interesting take?

But what does Bob bring to the table that makes him so sought after? Well, he brings with him stability, ambition, and the ability to execute his vision. After all, he brought Kevin Durant to the Warriors, constructing one of the greatest teams to grace the NBA. But is bringing in Bob the right move for the Sixers right now?

Is this the right time for Bob Myers to join the Philadelphia 76ers? What does this mean for Daryl Morey?

Well, to make a long story short, yes. If there was ever a time the Philadelphia 76ers needed new management, it’s now. The Sixers aren’t exactly at the best place right now (no offense, guys). They’re on a 9-game skid with the Golden State Warriors next, a matchup we just don’t see them winning. And we just learned that Joel Embiid is out for the season. So yes, with this season already in the bin, the Philly would do well to bring in Bob Myers.

But what can he do for them? Well, for years now, Daryl Morey and the rest of the Sixers’ executives have shown that they’re simply unable to surround Joel Embiid with a squad that can help him win an NBA ring. And time seems to be running out. Well, Morey did bring in Tyrese Maxey, who’s been phenomenal for the Sixers. But the rest of his moves have been well-intended. Just did not work out.

Look no further than him signing an aging Paul George to a 4-year deal, or the failed James Harden experiment, for example. It’s not like PG-13 is a bad player; no, it’s quite the opposite, actually. But giving him such a lengthy contract in the twilight of his career when injuries are the norm, now that’s a boneheaded move on Morey’s part.

On the other hand, Bob Myers brought in Kevin Durant when he recognised that Steph Curry needed some backup to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers, who had a prime LeBron James and Kyrie Irving among their ranks. But even before that, he brought in Steve Kerr to replace Mark Jackson and also signed Klay Thompson to begin the “Splash Brothers” era. Does the fact that he won the Executive of the Year award in 2014/15 because of these moves even surprise you?

So, it’s clear that Bob Myers would be a massive step up for the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office. Sadly for Daryl Morey, this could mean parting ways with the club he’s been at for nearly half a decade.
