The Golden State Warriors are glaring at a saddening and infuriating reality. Something isn’t right with Draymond Green. On Tuesday, less than a month after a five-game suspension, the former Defensive Player of The Year had another lowlight. In the third quarter, while guarded by Phoenix center Jusuf Nurkic, Green cut his hands loose again, striking him on his face. It was a straight ejection, the third time we have witnessed it. The frustrations have gone and reached his longest teammate, Stephen Curry.

The three-point king of the NBA was visibly enraged in that same game. During a timeout, Curry deterred his anger on the chair near the Warriors’ bench. After that, he had to endure Green’s recklessness once again. The slumps around him and Green’s repeated mistakes have fused together and hit Curry and with striking force.

That night we say Curry drained out. He wasn’t his usual self, one who tries to bring life into the camp and empowers his teammates. Sadly, it seems like Curry might be on his last nerve.

Golden State Warriors are a bad mess

When facing the Suns, the home team was without Kevin Durant, their leading scorer. Bradly Beal was returning after healing from a back injury. Phoenix weren’t even close to their best. However, they were fortunate enough to face a Warriors side that can only be described as hectic and confused.

In that 2022 championship run, the Bay had a defensive identity. The two guys responsible for their success in getting stops were Green and Andrew Wiggins. When the franchise kept this core unchanged, these were the expectations from the tandem, to set in motion a defense that proves troublesome for the likes of a Devin Booker. Instead, they have not only failed to reach that benchmark, but their failures have amounted to the Warriors being a laughable defense.

They rank 16th in the league. Currently, the Warriors are out of the play-in race sitting at 11th in the Western Conference. And if you think their offense is keeping them somewhat surviving, you are wrong. The Warriors have an offensive rating of 113.6, good to rank in the lower half of the 30 teams. Considering the Warriors were believed to be contenders, these numbers simply don’t cut it.

The only standout has been Stephen Curry. Apart from 30, the second-best scorer is averaging under 16 points. That is Klay Thompson. Barring his rookie season, Klay is having his worst scoring season. He is shooting under 40% from the field, another career-low. Carrying the title of a splash brother, his 34% three-point shooting is again the worst mark of his career.

The second culprit has to be Wiggins. If there is a star who has disappointed the most, it is him. Dub Nation worshipped him after his heroics in the 2022 playoffs. His career was revived as a Warriors. But now, Wiggins is costing them games over and over. Struggling to score seems modest. There seems to be a silent war between the net and Wiggins. The former number-one pick has fallen down a cliff that is hurting the team.

The Warriors trusted them to provide aid to Curry, help him by stabbing opponents when they crammed the keystone. Instead, they have isolated their teammate. Defenses simply have to stop him to contain the four-time champions.

Stephen Curry is stranded all alone and no one can help

Curry alone has kept the Warriors within fighting distance in the conference. He has shouldered the entire burden, be it the franchise, teammates, and the millions of fans. If it were anyone else, they would have crumbled. Curry is standing putting the Warriors on top. But even he has his bad days, and when those do come around, teammates have to step up. That has happened.

The painful truth is the Baby Face Assassin has to burn out for the Warriors to even step close to winning territory. In those situations, Curry has been a gladiator. He has averaged 31 points and shoots 47% from three-point range. Stephen Curry holds nothing back. None of the games he has done so, but again, he is human.

In losses, 26.9 points isn’t a shabby contribution. But when you consider he isn’t accompanied by a scoring threat, his efforts go to vain. It’s upsetting to see Curry’s uncharacteristic display of frustration.

“This is fucking terrible” he shouted during his raging incident against the Suns.

He had finally reached his boiling point, and everything he kept within got its gateway. After the game, Curry’s demeanor was palpable. He was disappointed, defeated, and tired. It’s because Curry knows the Warriors personify ‘strength in numbers’. And this season, they are relying on one individual to do something astronomical each game.

This takes a toll on Curry.

Curry has reached his limits

Avid NBA watchers know Stephen Curry is not one to be so emotional. He stays composed and in control of his feelings. However, against the Phoenix Suns, he snapped and it wasn’t for that short spell. Considering it all happened before Green’s suspension, Curry was squeezed of any optimism.

Yet he gave it his all fighting till the end. He took the onus of taking the final shot, but Curry couldn’t drain one of the miracle shots. Now, if he puts things into perspective, Stephen Curry has no strength because the Warriors are down in numbers. Klay Thompson is not a reliable second option anymore and he is slowly being pushed to the bench. Wiggins can’t manage to make a scoring impact and be on Curry’s wavelength.

Adding to it all, Green’s return is now unknown.

Steve Kerr can’t work his genius without those key pieces. Stephen Curry’s dominance won’t amount to success unless his most trusted comrades fight for him. The only hope now stands with their youth, because believing in veterans just simply isn’t working out. Jonathan Kuminga, Podziemski, and Moody are making up for what Klay and Wiggins have lacked. Now, if they can stage a rise and be consistent, Stephen Curry might just smile again.
