The marquee addition to the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of the trade deadline was the ex-Pacer Buddy Hield. A free agent, everyone was confused as to why the sharpshooter was still on the list. But all the worries can now come to a rest. The latest shocker from Shams Charania of The Athletic reveals that the Warriors are looking to acquire Hield from the Sixers.

Just In: The Golden State Warriors are in serious talks on a sign-and-trade deal to acquire Buddy Hield, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Warriors and 76ers have been in deep discussions, working to finalize the deal for one of the NBA’s best three-point shooters.

This surely came as a bolt from the blue as it seemed like the Warriors were looking for ways to bring in a Finnish touch to the Bay Area with Lauri Markkanen. In fact, that was all anyone could talk about.

However, the Utah Jazz was never really completely sold on the idea of giving up the 7’0 forward without getting an equal or, preferably, a little more in return. We are talking about a Knicks-Nets ‘Mikal Bridges’ kind of deal. Of course, no team who showed an interest in Lauri was ready for that big of a compromise. Except for a Warriors squad desperate for a third star.

But clearly, the desperation didn’t force them to make a hasty decision. As we wait for more details on the outcome of the deal, let’s turn our attention to the rejuvenated Dub Nation’s reactions at hearing the news of an elite sharpshooter replacing one that left for Dallas.

The Warriors faithful can’t wait to inaugurate the new “Splash Buds”

This first fan didn’t waste any words as they got straight to the point. “Perfect Klay (Thompson) replacement. Elite shooter and still has young legs.” A career 40% shooter from downtown, Hield had a tough time adjusting with Joel Embiid and the Sixers. In 32 games with Philly, he shot 38.9% from beyond the arc. While that number wasn’t far from his usual production, it was apparent that he struggled on the court. Hopefully, this shouldn’t be a problem with Stephen Curry and Co.

On that note, here’s the next fan who is certain of his fit with Steph. “Steph gets his new splash brother.” Hilariously, yet another user has come up with an innovative suggestion. Well, it was more of a question, really. The Miami Heat fan page posted, “Now they’re the Splash Buds?” A clever play on the words, indeed!

If you thought the fans have run out of creativity, think again. Here’s another individual borrowing a stunning Snoop Dog clip to express his thoughts. With the caption, “Curry and Hield together:” this was what they had to say.

And if these aren’t enough, here are a few numbers to look at while we wait for the news to drop. Since the 2019-20 season, Buddy Hield has topped the chart for draining the most three-pointers at 1,322 with his new Splash Brother (or Bud) coming second (1,264). Just to add on, Hield is also in the Top 10 when it comes to players with the highest average speed per game (4.52 miles per hour) in 2023-24.
