However, just when the sports world assumed the 26-year-old got out of the basketball circles, he dropped another major update pertaining to the sport.

But what if Lyles was not an outsider? The 6-time World Champion recently revealed his failed NBA dreams after being on the receiving end of scrutiny for weeks.

Noah Lyles’ decision to question NBA’s “world champions” title has not received the warmest responses, to say the least. After Kevin Durant called out for help for the Olympic bronze medalist, several NBA stars the likes of Draymond Green and Damian Lillard tagged along to berate the 26-year-old. His “outsider” position may have played a major role in this stand against him. However, had Lyles followed his NBA dreams, he may not have been an outsider after all.

In a recent interview, Lyles revealed that basketball was his “first love” growing up. Amid the scrutiny received from the Phoenix Suns forward and other NBA stars, this statement is truly ironic.

Lyles had a failed NBA dream that prompted his track and field career. Given his extraordinary success in the sport, one can assume his decision has paid off brilliantly. However, when he tried to get back into the basketball world, things did not go well.

Despite the controversy that Lyles stirred up with his statements, he may have had the last laugh. Team USA’s 2023 FIBA World Cup disappointment has prompted fans to now believe Lyles may have been right. In fact, to further advocate his claims, even the Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo recently stepped forward.

Noah Lyles’ failed NBA dreams gave rise to a spectacular track and field career. Although his attempts to remain in the basketball circles may not have gone too well. But this does not necessarily serve as a setback for the 6-time champion; especially after getting Giannis Antetokounmpo’s endorsement to his claims.

In a recent appearance on the “48 Minutes” podcast, Antetokounmpo sided with Lyles on the “world champions” debate. The Bucks forward also risked receiving backlash for his comments to show support for the 26-year-old.

“I think Germany won the World Cup, correct? Yeah, so Germany can say we are the World Champs. I think they beat the USA team, correct? Then they beat the Serbian team. Man, I might get some backlash for this, but I really do not care. I totally agree with him (Noah Lyles)” said the 2-time MVP.

Noah Lyles may have stirred up controversy for his statement, but he clearly has an advocate in Antetokounmpo for his opinion. In fact, several other sporting entities have come forward in support of the 6-time world champion. However, one cannot help but wonder if this controversy may not have even escalated to this level had Lyles’ NBA dreams been fulfilled.
