Paul George is a total beast on both ends of the court. His ball handling? Exceptional. There is no doubt that he will go down as one of the best players to play in the world’s best league. During his tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers, PG averaged 23.4 points, 8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in 38 playoff games. Despite being a valuable addition to the team, the Clippers considered him a less significant second choice. Patrick Beverly, his ex-teammate on the Clippers, claims that was the most hurtful experience for him while playing for the Clippers.
“Paul George go in the media one time and says I’m okay with being the second option. I think that’s what hurt him with the Clippers.” Patrick Beverly said. ” I think the Clippers looked at him like, okay, you option number two then or we got James Harden.” The Clippers made an initial offer of only $60 million for a 2-year contract, which the experienced NBA player found disrespectful. ” Then obviously, they feel some type of way. They gave Kawhi max. You know he got hurt and PG was healthy this year and he did not get it.” Paul George expressing contentment with being the second choice further motivated Steve Ballmer to deny him the same contract extension as Kawhi.

PG’s move to the Philadelphia 76ers signifies the unfortunate end of the Clippers’ ongoing contention era. Age and injuries have significantly diminished the gameplay of Kawhi Leonard and James Harden, even though they are leading the charge. The franchise has limited flexibility remaining, particularly in their assets, as they have no first-round picks available until 2027. Furthermore, due to their position above the league’s second spending limit, they have restrictions on how much they can spend.
The Clippers’ impressive effort to secure their first championship by trading for George with a substantial package seemed like an obvious move at that point. Regrettably, their risky decision did not yield the desired outcome in their quest for their ultimate objective.
Currently, the Clippers’ long-term prospects appear bleak due to their aging roster and significant salary cap constraints. Additionally, the team won’t have a guaranteed first-round pick until 2030. As Clippers fans await the team’s new rebrand and arena, they hope for a revitalized team identity.
