The Lakers have made their decision to draft Bronny James and create history by forming the league’s first-ever father-son duo. With him and LeBron James on the same team, they have a lot more things to figure out this summer. With most signs hinting at LeBron staying in LA for the coming years, he will probably share the locker room with his son. This, however, could lead to a weird dynamic in the Lakers camp. Even Clippers superstar Paul George and NOLA youngster Trey Murphy III seem to think so.

While the Lakers might want us to think otherwise, it’s safe to say that Bronny James is not going to be an ordinary rookie. Being LeBron’s son, his every move will be analyzed, with fans and media ready to pounce on any weakness they see. Moreover, the added attention could cause problems in the Lakers locker room because even the veterans in the team will likely be extra cautious in how they treat Bronny, possibly fearing getting side-eyed from LeBron.

Addressing these concerns on an episode of his podcast, Paul George and Trey Murphy discussed what it could be like for the Lakers next season. For starters, PG loved the idea of LeBron and Bronny sharing the court and wondered how amazing it would be when one throws a lob and the other finishes the dunk. “LA is gonna go crazy.” He remarked.

Meanwhile, Murphy imagined the father and son trash-talking each other during practice sessions and scrimmages. “You know they gon’ be talking sh*t.” Murphy mentioned. Then, an even more concerning question was put up for PG and Murphy asking if head coach JJ Redick would play Bronny right away because most late second-round picks do not get much playing time in their rookie season. However, PG believed that Bronny’s case could be different and we might see him on the court often, “I think so. I am a fan of Bronny.”

But it could rub the fellow veterans on the team the wrong way. Moreover, Bronny’s ‘special treatment’ could lead to lingering tensions behind the scenes.

While Rob Pelinka and Co. figure out how to handle Bronny’s rookie year in LA, former Warriors GM Bob Myers gave his opinion on how he would have taken care of the situation. During an ESPN segment on draft day, Myers believed that the Lakers might need to have a one-on-one discussion with LeBron if they foresee any future problems, “I might sit LeBron James down and say ‘Listen, our plan is to coach him (Bronny) and treat him like we would any rookie’.” Myers believes that LeBron would happily buy into that strategy because even he wants things to be done the right way.

Moreover, Bronny might not want to be a part of the locker room that believes he is getting any preferential treatment as a rookie. With the way he has handled himself so far, Bronny looks like he doesn’t want to live in his father’s shadow. Keeping that in mind, Myers also claimed that even head coach JJ Redick might have to be extra hard on Bronny at times to make others believe that there are no preferences in the team. “The second the rules are different for him you might lose the other players on the team.” Myers added. But that could mean that Bronny will not get much playing time like Paul George predicts. It’s likely to bother the players whose minutes get cut. So, it is a tricky situation for the Lakers and it’ll be interesting to see how they handle it.
