The LA Clippers had put up an impressive win record and allowed themselves to be a major contender during the ongoing playoffs. However, it is at this stage that they are now struggling against the Luka Doncic-led Dallas Mavericks. During the recently concluded Game 3, 32-year-old small forward Kawhi Leonard failed to make a dent, as he ended his playtime with just 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists in his name. Despite this, Paul George did not want his teammates to lose faith in the player.
NBA Journalist Joey Linn highlighted Paul George’s recent statement, in which he stated “We gotta cover and pick up the slack and appreciate what he’s (Leonard) giving us…”. The player further placed his faith in his teammate by stating that Leonard may not be giving his 100%, but he is still giving the Clippers “what he can.”

“We gotta cover and pick up the slack and appreciate what he’s giving us… We know he’s not 100%, but he’s trying to suit up and give us what he can.”

Kawhi Leonard developed a right knee inflammation during the Clippers’ not-so-recent matchup against the Charlotte Hornets. As a result, he was missing from the main lineup during the next three weeks, including during Game 1 of the Playoffs. For someone who had been averaging 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists during the regular season, his performance saw a drastic decline upon his return. This may be because that Leonard is still in recovery, with his status during the game’s Injury Report listed as ‘questionable’. Due to this fact, Paul George is standing beside his teammate and telling the other members of the Clippers roster to fill the gap during this crucial time.

Kawhi Leonard wants to find the “right” way to play with his unhealed injury
Kawhi Leonard was the Clippers’ highest average scorer during the recent regular season. His presence on the main roster allowed them to hold a 44-24 W/L record. With the Mavericks holding a 2-1 lead after their recent win, the player’s condition and recovery will play a major role in determining how far the Clippers will go during the tournament. Time is running short, however, and Leonard may have to figure out how to give his best in light of the unwanted circumstances.
During the post-game press conference, the 6x NBA All-Star was asked about the progress in dealing with his inflammation. He proceeded to state that his knee “didn’t respond the way we wanted after the first game, but we’re gonna get it right. Time will tell, but we’re doing all the right things”.
