Can Paul George's resilience inspire the Sixers to a strong start despite his injury setback?

One bad step, a screeching sound of a shoe getting planted on the hardboard and an injury. 2 seconds is all it took for all these to unfold, leaving Paul George in a heap of pain. The new Sixer hyperextended his left knee in a grotesque manner that makes the replay hard to watch. With that his chances of starting the season opener next week were vanquished to a major degree. But now, Paul George has an injury update for the fans.

While discussing his injury picked up against the Hawks, Paul George stated that it was a normal play frequently executed but things got on the wrong foot this time. “I reached, poked the ball free, and I guess my leg just kinda got stuck. My knee locked up, my leg locked up. When I went to go push off, like, all my momentum is going forward, and my leg just it just caused it to go inwards,” George said in a yet-to-be-released Podcast With P episode.

PG-13 also shared a sigh of relief for the fans. “I’ll be back stronger and better than ever,” George added. “It wasn’t nothing major or no concern to, like, I didn’t damage a ligament. I didn’t damage a tendon. It was literally just bone-on-bone bruising from a hyperextension. I’m a be good. I should be back hopefully sooner than later, but it won’t be a long timetable.”

The team informed that George’s injury is scheduled for re-evaluation in one week, before the Sixers head for their match against the Bucks. Even HC Nick Nurse sounded positive regarding the 9-time All-Star’s condition. Although it is uncertain whether he will rejoin the team in their season-opening game, things look optimistic for the vet.

Before leaving the court in the second quarter, George added 8 points to his name, along with 2 rebounds and an assist. But that’s not the only worry for the Sixers ahead of the new season. The squad is already plagued with injuries including Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Sixers injury list keeps growing amid Paul George situation

The plan was to establish a Philadelphia 76ers Big 3 for the upcoming season. But with Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey registering their names on the injury list, the feasibility of carrying out their initial strategy appears slim.

The Cameroonian could not participate in the preseason games due to his knee injury and is currently undergoing rehab to deal with it. As per reports, he is progressing well but chances are that he won’t be playing back-to-back games anymore.

Like George, Maxey too had to exit in the middle of the game. In the preseason finale against the Magic, the point guard was sidelined within five minutes remaining and was not included further due to a right thumb contusion. Jared McCain also got added in the injury reserve for pulmonary contusions.

The growing injury list is a big blow to the franchise. Nurse will certainly have a hard time in finalizing the roster if they fail to return before the regular season opener.
