Paul George certainly has safe hands! The hands that the coaches trust to take the game-winners. And, over the last decade, everyone has witnessed the 8x All-Star’s magical shooting skills at the crunch time. However, the 34-year-old recently gave a surprising answer to a question regarding the last shot. While PG was expected to confidently opt to take the game-winner, he rather had an unexpected response. Meanwhile, ex-NBA star, Bonzi Wells rolled with the reply surprisingly.

Heading into the 2024-25 season, almost everyone’s eyes are on the Philadelphia 76ers after PG’s trade. With a former MVP and a rising superstar on the roster, Paul George certainly joined a rock-solid squad. Addressing it, Chet Holmgren, who recently featured on George’s podcast show, asked who would take the game-winner on the Philly. This is definitely a tricky question and indeed could stir up the chemistry within the side.

However, Paul George handled it with ease with a tinge of diplomacy. After giving it a thought, PG said, “Whoever Nick Nurse draws it up for, we going to get the best shot.” The OKC Thunder center pushed it further, asking whether he would be upset if Nurse gave the shot to Joel Embiid. George again dodged it, saying, “Nah! no no, I’ve dealt with that… I’ve been on teams with other superstars.”

Bonzi Wells, who witnessed the response featuring on the Sheed & Tyler podcast show, gave a huge thumbs up. He said, “That’s a good answer… he’s so used to playing with other stars, this is nothing new to him. He went to OKC and played there… played with Kawai these last few years. With them, two and three Maxey (Tyrese Maxey), that shot is in good hands.” Certainly, Tyrese Maxey single-handedly carried the team during Embiid’s injury absence. So, the Philly fans are in for a treat.

Putting the diplomacy aside, who will take the ‘last shot’?

If you’re Nick Nurse at this point, you’re certainly having a bad time. Paul George has proven his clutch several times in the past. For instance, in the last season, no one can forget PG’s angle-breaker game-winner against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The superstar not only got the bucket but also killed the time with his crafty dribbles.

On the other hand, the lineup has a dominant center who has proven himself with MVP honors. And then there is Tyrese Maxey, the up-and-coming superstar. The nurse might cut out Maxey considering his experience, but he wouldn’t have a strong reason to pick between Embiid and PG.

However, Bonzi Wells has a definitive answer. In the same podcast, Wells added, “If I had to choose I’m going to choose PG personally ’cause I feel like he’s the most creative that can really create you know get his shot off against anybody he’s bigger… Maxey has a bag but he’s smaller than Paul. But Paul has that perfect size of bag and athleticism.” If you’re Nick Nurse, who will pick for the last shot? Let us know in the comments.
