Kevin Durant still loves NBA 2K despite the disrespect—Is he too forgiving or just passionate?

Among NBA players, some are all about NBA 2K, and others couldn’t care less. However, Kevin Durant totally falls in the first group. He’s been hooked on the game since the early PlayStation days and has been on the cover of NBA 2K a few times, like 2K13 and 2K15. His passion for the game is still going strong—he even chatted about it while playing NBA 2K25 on the Boardroom podcast, despite the huge disrespect by the $26 billion company.

Kevin Durant’s 2K rating has dropped to 94 overall, his lowest since 2K17. Even though he had a stellar season, averaging over 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5 assists, he’s now ranked 9th in the latest 2K game. This is a step down from last year’s 2K24, where he was tied for the second-highest rating with a 96 overall alongside Giannis, Stephen Curry, Embiid, and LeBron. But Durant still showed love for Take-Two Interactive, the folks behind NBA 2K.

“Since PlayStation Sega like always, enjoy playing basketball games. So to see evolution of 2k, be on the cover; every year I am locked in, I am in the park. I am doing all of it, every game mode I am playing, so it has really become a part of my life to be honest.” Durant said, via Boardroom.

Now that NBA 2K25 dropped on September 6, 2024, gamers and hoops fans are all over it. Further, let’s dive into Kevin Durant’s role in this latest release. KD’s journey with 2K has been a big part of his life, and this edition keeps that legacy going strong. We’ll check out how KD’s virtual game stacks up in 2K25 and what makes him stand out this year.

Kevin Durant is a joy to play with in NBA 2k25

In NBA 2K25, Kevin Durant’s virtual game is on fire with a 94 overall rating and a 2-Way Scoring Phenom build. He’s stacked with 21 badges, including 2 of them on Hall of Fame levels while 9 are Gold level. KD’s outside scoring is off the charts, with a 97 rating for mid-range shots making him a sharpshooter from that range, and a 92 rating for three-pointers turning him into a serious deep threat. This combo makes him a beast on the offensive end of the game.

Even though Kevin Durant’s rating in NBA 2K25 is a drop from past editions like 2K17, you won’t be able to tell if you know how to work his skills right. His inside and outside shooting are still on fire, just like in real life. And even though Durant’s a 2K junkie, playing almost every day, you might think his go-to player is himself—but actually, it’s not.

Back in 2014, Kevin Durant pulled up on the Jimmy Fallon show to hype up NBA 2K15, where he was the cover star. Fallon threw him a playful question, asking who he plays as in 2K. KD hesitated at first, but Fallon kept pushing, and eventually, KD dropped the truth, “Alright, LeBron.” The whole crowd cracked up, knowing that even in the virtual world, the King’s still running the show. It was one of those moments where everyone just got that playing as LeBron James is too good to resist, even for a basketball player like Durant. What are your thoughts on them?
