Did Anthony Edwards' Olympic performance prove he's still a top-tier player despite his NBA struggles?

The most searched Team USA men’s basketball players on eBay during the 2024 Paris Olympics were LeBron James and Stephen Curry. This isn’t surprising given their standout performances, especially in the last two games. However, there’s another name that ranked alongside them in eBay searches: Anthony Edwards. The 23-year-old is expected to be the face of the NBA in the coming years.

But his market value seems to have taken a hit after not having a standout performance in the last two Olympic games against Serbia and France, unlike the two other legends. Anthony Edwards’ ungraded 2020 Panini Prizm silver card, a sought-after parallel to his base rookie card, saw its price rise to around $320 after Team USA’s semifinal win over Serbia. This price level was similar to when Edwards had been performing well in the NBA playoffs in May.

The card’s price had previously fallen below $200 in late June/early July after Edwards’ NBA playoff elimination. Despite a recent decline in value following the Olympic semifinals and finals, it remains higher than the low point it reached earlier. In a way, Team USA’s gold was a saving grace for Edwards.

To boost collector interest and further increase the card’s value, Edwards will need to improve his performance in the upcoming NBA season and deliver strong performances in crucial moments. Coming off a gold medal with Team USA, can Anthony Edwards step up and deliver top performances in the upcoming NBA season?

Well, given there has been conversation about him being one of the best shooting guards in the NBA right now, chances are his card value might shoot up next season.

Is Anthony Edwards NBA’s top shooting guard?

It has only been four years since Anthony Edwards joined the NBA, but he’s already stacked up some serious accomplishments. Now, with an Olympic gold added to his list, it really looks like he’s set to take off.

Look at what he’s done for the Timberwolves. The team hadn’t reached a Western Conference Final in 20 years until last season—guess who was a major reason for that? ANT-MAN. People wouldn’t just be comparing him to Michael Jordan, would they?

“All in all, Edwards is a spectacular player, a three-level scorer with insane athleticism and length who plays with a tough mentality, and who has an old-school flair to his game in that he’ll let an opponent know when he’s lighting him up, and he’ll do so loudly,”  according to reporter Frank Ubina.

Though they didn’t win it all last season, Edwards and the Timberwolves look like serious contenders based on their playoff performance. With the experience of reaching the finals under his belt, Edwards will be leading the charge for the Timberwolves.

Considering all this, will the Timberwolves star deliver a standout performance next season? What are your thoughts on him? Let us know in the comments.
