Did Giannis just prove he's the real MVP by ending Luka's gold medal dreams?

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Greeks have finally qualified for the Finals in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Greece. It is now one game away from making the Olympics after their dominant victory over Slovenia. The national will face the winner of the second Semi-Final between Croatia and the Dominican Republic. However, on the other side of the fence, Luka Doncic went home with a loss, which at the end of the day was much needed. Why is that so? For starters, Luka is just coming off a long postseason run.

Not only that, but Doncic has played over 100 games in the past year. These include his 70 regular season games and the 22 postseason games. He also struggled from the field in the last two games against Croatia and New Zealand. Doncic was definitely in need of some rest, and as he heads back to the offseason, fans as well as the Mavericks would be relieved to see him off the court.

Luka put up 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting over 55% from deep. These numbers were much better than his previous two games, where he scored triple-doubles on extremely low efficiency. At the end of the day, Doncic had a great year, being the favorite to win the MVP, making his first Finals trip, and leading Slovenia in the OQT.

Surely, it’s about time that he rests and looks forward to the next season. The Mavs’ newest addition, Klay Thompson, will be joining Luka Doncic and Irving, which will be a sight to see. Heading into the 2024-25 season, Doncic will be the favorite to win the MVP yet again. This puts a lot of expectations on Luka’s shoulders, while also giving the newly structured Mavs roster. Consequently, Dallas will be one of the top title contenders next year. And to maintain this status, their stars need some time off.

Fans are relieved as Luka Doncic can finally rest

Yes, Doncic’s commitment to his country as well as the Mavericks franchise is recognized by many. The Slovenian works the most, giving his all on the court. Following the loss against Greece in the Semi-Final, fans expressed their relief as Doncic finally gets to enjoy his offseason. One of the fans felt bad for the Slovenian as he “he desperately needs rest”. And why not? Doncic already seemed quite exhausted after the game against New Zealand.

Another fan recognized that it may have been a heartbreaking loss for Luka Doncic, but he can finally get some rest. Whereas other fans also hoped that the Maverick could finally take the summer break. Losing the Finals followed by a tough loss in the OQT would’ve been hurtful, but at last, it is the small changes in his career that project his bright future ahead.

Yet another Twitterati thanked god, as Luka’s run came to an end. It is safe to say that his fans are well aware of his continuous busy schedule.

One Twitterati hilariously hinted at Doncic gaining weight in the offseason, stating that he “deserves all the ice cream he wants”. Though Luka lost quite some weight last season and was looking lean and ready for the regular season. However, after an exhaustive season, he can look to “eat his weight back up”, as one of the fans termed it.

However, after an exhaustive season, he can look to “eat his weight back up”, as one of the fans termed it. Well, considering his skill set, it won’t really matter how he spends his offseason except not bulking to the extreme.

As Doncic was busy practicing with the Slovenian national team, he may not have been aware of the free-agent market drama. A fan hilariously broke the exciting news of Klay Thompson joining the Mavs.
