The stage is all set! The city of love and lights braces itself for the 2024 Paralympics just days after it bid adieu to the Olympics. For hoop lovers, there’s much to look out for in this action-packed week. The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation has officially announced the schedule, group allotments, and other necessary details for the men’s and women’s competition set to take place from 29 August to 8 September!

Located at the heart of Paris, the Bercy Arena, will serve as the iconic venue for the competitions where records will be shattered, hopes will be renewed and historic moments will be re-created and re-lived! This Arena would mark the place where 8 men’s and women’s national teams will compete for the highly coveted Paralympic medals.

The much-anticipated thrill awaits a day after the Opening Ceremony. For the first wheelchair basketball match at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, tune in on 29 August to watch the all-European affair, with Great Britain taking on Germany in the men’s Group A match at 08:00 ET. The women’s competition will commence in the same session at 10:15, with European silver medallists Great Britain locking horns with Spain, in the women’s Group A encounter.

The pool stages for both tournaments will continue until 2 September, followed by knockout matches starting from 3 September. The round-robin format phase will be followed within the groups, leading to quarter-finals, semi-finals, and then the ultimate clash for the golden glory. The men’s finals will be held on 7 September, with the women’s finals taking place the day after.

The excitement-inducing group draws for the global wheelchair basketball competition took place on 14 June. Following are the group divisions for the women’s competition:

The final roster consists of 12 athletes from the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s team from the 2023 Santiago Parapan American Games. The pool also retains 10 athletes from the bronze medal-winning U.S. Women’s team from the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. Under the guidance of the Head Coach, Christina Schwab, the team is in high spirits. Here is a sneak peek into the Women’s team roster:

Team USA Men’s Roster and Schedule

Team USA Paralympic men’s wheelchair basketball team comes off with its enviable winning streak having already bagged 2 straight Paralympic Gold medals at the 2016 Rio Games and 2020 Tokyo Olympics; Gold medals at the 2022 Americas Cup, 2023 World Championship and 2023 Parapan American Games, is well set on its path to bring a third gold home.

With a majority of Team USA Men’s Roster comprising rookies from Auburn who have been previously coached by Robb Taylor, the cohesive unit is all prepped up to defend its Tokyo Gold. As the team sits on a heap of expectations the pressure gets all real as said by Taylor, “There is a big target on our back having recently won back-to-back [Paralympic] gold medals in Rio and Tokyo, so there are high expectations for our team and for our program. So, I’m excited to take that on.”
