Does James Harden's latest promise to China make him a hero or a hypocrite?

“Daryl Morey is a liar!” It was in the same month last year that James Harden shocked the basketball community as he publicly slammed the Sixers President during an Adidas event in China. Surprisingly enough, he was still on Morey’s payroll when he made the accusation. But the irony is that while The Beard is no longer with the Sixers, his former Clippers teammate Paul George is now employed by the same man who Harden pointed fingers at. And as the two stars had an unexpected reunion in China earlier this week, Harden made another bold promise following his annual trip to the country.

Yes, just like last year, Harden returned to China this month to interact with his fans and participate in multiple events organized by the three-stripe brand. Having been a star for the Houston Rockets, a franchise that was home to Chinese legend Yao Ming for years, James received a ton of love from the people of China. Sure enough, he expressed his gratitude with a heartwarming post on IG, “Every year these trips get better and better! Overwhelmed from the genuine love, gifts and support. I’ll be back sooner than later 🇨🇳 #Uno”

In the images he posted, hundreds of fans gathered just to get a glimpse of the former MVP. And James promised to return soon just to feel that love once again. Not only did he interact with his fans during the trip, but he also participated in a charity game organized by none other than Hall of Famer Yao Ming. But Harden was not alone! Teamed up with him were several NBA superstars including Jimmy Butler, Kyle Kuzma, and shockingly Paul George.

Moreover, this was the first time PG and Harden were playing together since the former signed with the Sixers on a four-year $212 million deal earlier this summer. But why did Harden have a problem with PG’s new employer a year ago? Let’s jog your memory.

James Harden-Daryl Morey Beef

Well, it all began with Harden publicly saying, “Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of. Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.” The statement that sent shockwaves through Philly was reportedly due to Harden’s disappointment in Morey after he was not given his desired maximum extension and there was a massive delay in trading him to the Clippers even though the two had reportedly discussed it during the off-season.

What’s your perspective on:

Does James Harden's latest promise to China make him a hero or a hypocrite?

Have an interesting take?

Sure enough, while Morey extended Harden’s stay in Philly, the former MVP continued to rebel as he even missed team practice despite the risk of getting fined by the league office. As expected, Morey had no option but to part ways with The Beard and he eventually got traded to the Clippers like he initially wanted. But that was a year ago. Now that Harden has inked his two-year $70 million deal with the Clippers and Morey has a new superstar in Paul George to look forward to, both parties are in a much better position. But there might still be some bad blood left between Harden and Morey. What are your thoughts?
