Andrew Wiggins (and his fans) are in a familiar place once again. All the Chinese fans expectantly waiting for his arrival find themselves disappointed with the latest news regarding the Canadian star. And yes, it’s something we are all acquainted with very well. It happened in 2022-23 and then, last season, and while we are not sure about the upcoming season, Wiggs is surely off to an unfavorable (to the fans) start.
Ray Almeda, global PR Lead of EA Sports, tweeted the disappointing news. “Richard Clarke, Andrew Wiggins’ manager, on the @Warriors forward “postponing” China trip “for now”: “Unexpected things happen. Unforeseen circumstances that are out of control… We really appreciate the love and support that you guys provide for him… in due time we’ll come back and make it whole.” @22wiggins #AndrewWiggins #DubNation“
In the 2022-23 season, Wiggins had cited personal reasons and was absent for over two months. It was later revealed that his father had a serious medical condition, and his presence at home was vital. Needless to say, in the initial days of no further updates, Wiggs’ was heavily ridiculed for leaving the team at a crucial stretch.

A similar situation happened this last season, as well. His absence was shorter this time around, having missed four games, but that didn’t stop the loud chatter. Similar to the above situation, the 2022 All-Star only cited personal reasons as an explanation. But the mystery surrounding Andrew’s family troubles only grew when his older brother, Nick Wiggins, cut short his season with the Pacific Caesar Surabaya in Indonesia to return to Canada in March. Again, the elder Wiggins cited “serious personal issues back home” in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
Anyway, it seems like whatever troubles ail his family; it continues to this day. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at how his last trip to China went.
Andrew Wiggins had a blast with Peak

The Chinese sportswear and footwear brand that Wiggs signed before the 2021-22 season, Peak, had created a core memory during the week-long trip in late July 29, 2023. The trip, which concluded on August 5, saw both the NBA player and his brand travel through five major cities, Shenyang, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Xiamen, and Quanzhou.
Throughout the trip, the team handling the affairs made sure to give the fans exactly what they wanted – an up close and personal interaction. One of their more creative ideas was organizing a series of ‘face-to-face with NBA stars’. Lucky winners for the offline meet & greet were chosen through an online raffle.
But we have to give it up to the event coordinators as they thought about everything. Those unable to partake in the offline event could stream through the live broadcast on Taobao, the popular live-streaming platform. As a final token of appreciation and to keep the fans happy until the next trip, they also launched limited edition T-shirts and Wiggins sneakers.
