Life works funny sometimes. Just ask Jayson Tatum. Only one season ago, he was on the stage of the NBA finals locking eyes with Stephen Curry. The Golden State Warriors‘ central superstar was the reason behind the Boston Celtics‘ shortcomings on the grand stage. His graceful performance kept his team in the fight, leading to his first-ever Finals MVP award. Now, a year later, they’re on much calmer terms, yet taking slight jabs at each other.
Recently, the popular fast-food joint Subway introduced Curry to their team. The new advert featured both the two-time MVP and the 25-year-old Tatum. And their harmless banter and cheeky play on words made the commercial even more relatable and authentic.

The Subway advertisement focused on the restaurant’s practice of cutting fresh meat in-house to serve their delicious sandwiches. The Warriors ace led the way, promoting his exclusive sub, the ‘Titan Turkey’ by cleverly saying it is “preferred by the pros.”
However, the commercial intended to have a battle of laughs between the former Finals rivals. In retaliation, Jayson Tatum picked on the 6’2″ Curry’s inability, or at least his struggle to dunk the ball.
“And by pros who can actually dunk, like me,” said the Celtics forward in continuation, while winking at the camera with his outstretched hands touching the rim.
The ‘Baby Face Assassin’ might possess an unrivaled offensive arsenal, but dunking isn’t his strongest suit. For an athletic subject such as Tatum, a flashy, creative dunk is what gets the crowds ecstatic. However, in the case of Curry, a masterful throw behind the line does the trick.
But the commercial wasn’t over yet. After Tatum’s jibe, Curry had his final punchline in store.

Can Stephen Curry actually dunk?
According to Basketball Reference, Curry hasn’t punched a ball into the rim since 2019! But the four-time champion is a proud man and wasn’t going to stay silent after Tatum’s bold remark.
The 6’3″ tried his best to convince the fans otherwise of his dunking ability. “I can dunk if I want to,” he said playfully, barely believing it himself.
