The New Orleans Pelicans promised the Crescent City to include them in their wins as a reward for their continuous support. However, the promised reward hinges on the Pelicans winning the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament. In a bid to lift the first NBA Cup and fulfill their promise to the Pelican State, the Pels have made impressive strides. After blowing a double-digit fourth-quarter lead to the Houston Rockets in their first game of group play, the Pelicans staged a turnaround, bagging the final three games. Now that they have successfully booked a spot in the in-season quarterfinal round, a stern test awaits them tonight.
The Pelicans will lock horns with the Sacramento Kings tonight. Although they have already defeated the Kings two times this season, both of those games were at home. Therefore, the Pelicans, who have just won one of their last seven road games, will have their work cut out for them tonight. Amidst the uncertainty, Zion Williamson reassures fans with his commitment to winning.

In August, the Pelicans introduced a new concept to share their on-court success with fans. They announced a “We Win, You Win” sweepstakes for the NBA In-Season Tournament. As per the announcement, the Pels would dole out $1 million to fans attending the Pelicans’ In-Season Tournament home games at the Smoothie King Center. One hundred eligible fans will receive an eye-watering $10,000 each if the Pelicans make it to Las Vegas and win the first NBA Cup. The team has already cleared the first roadblock, winning West Group B. However, there’s a bigger one waiting for them at the Golden 1 Center tonight.
But Zion Williamson is poised to embrace the challenge. Williamson stated, “I think I live for stuff like that. In those moments, it’s one of those, ‘There ain’t no tomorrow. You’ve got to figure this out right now.’ I think that’s when you see the best come out of people.” A win tonight will propel the Pelicans and the fans one step closer to the goal.

The Pelicans are finally looking healthy this season
The New Orleans Pelicans will field a fairly healthy roster entering tonight’s game. Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum are all expected to suit up tonight. That’s the healthiest Pelicans have been this season. In addition to Williamson’s availability, the team will greatly benefit from CJ McCollum’s presence. In the two games since he returned, he has had 20 and 19 points. Furthermore, a win tonight will provide a much-needed morale boost to the Pelicans, who have lost three straight road games.

As Williamson said, “For us, we haven’t won nothing. I think that would be a starting step to try to go and win that.” With his sights set on the NBA Cup, Williamson is primed to take on the Sacramento Kings en route to the finals.
