The matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics was highly anticipated and lived up to expectations as one of the season’s most thrilling games. Even with a five-day break, the Mavericks were unable to secure a victory against the indomitable Celtics, resulting in a 110-119 win. Boston’s victory over the Mavs further cemented their position as the best team in the league.

However, Jaylen Brown grabbed the headlines after the game for his vicious ankle-breaking move on Luka Doncic. Brown’s move went viral on social media, as fans were left amazed by Brown’s embarrassing move on Luka. In a post-match interview, Luka made an honest assessment about Brown’s highlight-worthy move. He said, “I can’t lie — that was really nice. I was on the floor praying he didn’t make it, but he made it. So it’s a whole highlight.”

While Luka Doncic secured his eighth triple-double of the season with 33 points, 18 rebounds, and 13 assists, his performance didn’t alter the outcome significantly. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined to contribute 73 points to the Celtics’ total of 119. This win puts the Celtics firmly in the driving seat to clinch the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Mavs’ season is starting to falter after an impressive start.

The Mavericks have only won five of their last ten games. Their sub-par current run of form has relegated the Mavs to the 8th spot in the Western Conference standings, with 24 wins and 19 losses. Should we consider their recent performances as a minor blip in an otherwise commendable season, or are the cracks beginning to show in the current Mavs’ roster?

Should the Mavs’ fans start to worry?

The Dallas Mavericks have been a perennial title contender for the better part of the last two decades. However, since their 2011 title triumph with Dirk, the Mavs have never come close to lifting the coveted Larry O’Brien trophy again. Many Mavs fans were optimistic about their title prospects this season after an impressive start, but their form has slowly petered out.

Despite possessing two of the best offensive players in the NBA, the Mavs still aren’t considered a legitimate title contender. Their lack of good perimeter defenders and a skilled wing player has become glaringly obvious as the season has progressed. The Mavs’ front office is actively scanning the trade market for a power forward, with reports linking them with Kyle Kuzma and Dorian Finney Smith. With their recent performances showing signs of decline, the Mavs’ hierarchy must act decisively and improve the current roster. At the moment, a deep postseason run looks unlikely but plausible. However, a team consisting of the likes of Luka and Kyrie should aim for much more than a playoff spot.
