Is Steph Curry really not cut out for Olympic basketball, or is Cowherd just stirring the pot?

“You’re always annoyed, for sure, you always want to make shots,” Stephen Curry admitted to USA Today’s Lindsay Schnell after another underwhelming shooting in his second-ever Olympic appearance. But if we know anything about the ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’, it’s that he’s not one to let failures disrupt his peace. “But you can’t let that rob you of all that other stuff that you do to help win a game,” he further added.

While this might be enough of a promise for all the Curry fans out there, some of the hard-nosed analysts and basketball pundits might need a little more. And Colin Cowherd falls into this category. In the latest episode of The Herd With Colin Cowherd, the Fox Sports Radio show host had a curious claim. “Is it possible that FIBA Olympic basketball isn’t really built necessarily for Steph all the time?”

Pretty sure if you listen closely, you might hear a few crickets chirping in the background. But Cowherd wasn’t done. “As Steph struggles, how do I reconcile that? He’s a great shooter. It’s closer. He should be shooting the lights out. He’s not. Why?” Joining his pod was the Hoops Tonight host, Jason Timpf. And he had quite a sermon for the 60-year-old.

We are, of course, going to focus on his particular take on Steph’s struggles. Timpf’s first reason was the 4x champion’s age. “As Steph has aged, he’s become a little bit susceptible to specific types of matchups, particularly teams that are closing those gaps on him.” Secondly, well, it’s more of a prayer that the Dubs fans can totally relate to rather than a reason, really.

“As far as Steph goes, he struggled most of the tail end of the season last year too. So, this is an extension of that and I’m really hoping as a basketball fan that this is just a blip and he’s going to figure it out because I really want the Warriors to be interesting next year.”

Stephen Curry might disagree with Jason on the extension part. But there is no doubt as to the fact that the 10x All-Star is having a hard time adjusting to the Olympics. After all, the man confessed it not too long ago.

When we talk about the NBA now, the first few faces or names that naturally come to mind are LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and the like. They are the living legends. That’s how far and deep they have influenced the game. However, even the greatest of them can struggle when put in unfamiliar surroundings. That seems to be the case for the ‘Chef,’ too.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports, the 36-year-old made an honest confession. “When you’re toeing the line you might shoot a couple long, just because you’re not used to it.” The pre-Olympic exhibition matches saw Curry’s difficulty in adjusting to the obvious changes. But for those hoping he would shake it off once he got to the real stage; they had to be disappointed.

Team USA needed some late-game heroics from James to escape a loss at the hands of South Sudan. But Steve Kerr saw what the Bright Stars were capable of. As did Curry. And they kept up the good work of suffocating the 2x MVP on defense, with Stephen scoring just 1 point at the end of the first half as he went 1-of-9 from the field. But this is Stephen Curry we are talking about.

“I’m not even worried about it, just a matter of taking the ones I know I can make and that the game calls for,” he said, by way of an assurance to Schnell. And when one of the greatest three-point shooters this world has ever seen makes such a promise, what do you do? Believe.
