The 2024 Paris Olympics preparations are in full swing for Team USA. After months and years of trying to stop the other, the players are now focused on getting into a rhythm with each other. They’ll be hoping to form a bond and build trust that will get them that 17th Gold, this year. Aside from the on-court endeavors, a great way to increase team cohesion is a little off-court time. And Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are already setting an example.

In the latest updates about Team USA, a loyal fan account posted the former teammates slaying and twinning in a black ensemble for a night out in Vegas. “Steph and Kevin Durant hung out off the court in Vegas 🤝” Needless to say this was soon the talk of the town! And for many Warriors fans, a walk down memory lane.

Kevin Durant’s arrival to the Warriors seemed like the perfect piece of the puzzle that practically made them untouchable. After winning the Dubs’ first title during the Splash Brothers’ era in 2015, LeBron James and the Cavs stole the ring from right under their nose. To compensate, perhaps, the Golden State went on a back-to-back championship run, winning it all in 2017 and 2018, thanks to a combination of the lethal ‘Death Lineup,’ elite offense, and brilliant team chemistry.

And KD was an important piece. Hence, it’s no wonder that fans couldn’t help but get quite emotional seeing the pair of Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant together, hanging out like old times. The Klay Thompson wound is still fresh, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that it could have also contributed to the emotional rollercoaster accompanying this photo.

Warriors fans were not holding back their admiration and excitement even the slightest in the comment section. One fan dubbed the duo, “Bay Area GODS.” No arguments here! In an appearance on 95.7 The Game’s Willard and Dibs show, Stephen A. Smith spoke about what the Dub Nation believes to be the case. “Steph Curry is the closest thing to a God-like figure that you have in that area.” 

Had the ‘Slim Reaper’ continued with the Warriors, it is hard to imagine the 14x All-Star not receiving the same honor. In fact, a similar line of thought is what this next fan has. “Man oh man! To think at one point these two were teammates! And to see that they get along off court. What went wrong ??? 😩 isn’t that life.” 

In the event that the 4x scoring champion had stayed put, Steph and his team would have ended up relying a lot more on KD when Klay missed two full seasons due to serious injuries. If that had indeed taken place, the Splash Brothers narrative would sound a whole lot different. Oh well, it will forever remain as one of those hypothetical situations, like ‘What if LeBron James had chosen the NFL?’

It seems that the different journeys the two had in their NBA career don’t stop fans from wishing for the moon. “Bring him home steph,” wrote a third user. Yet another fan simply wrote, “Besties.” And they truly are. Even after his less-than-pleasant exit from the Warriors, KD and Steph’s friendship never took a hit.

In fact, in 2021, when the ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’ broke Ray Allen’s all-time mark for three-pointers and celebrated the historic moment with a dinner with his teammates and family, Durant surprised him with a visit. “Get the f*ck outta here bro,” shows just how unexpected the visit was. But Curry was overjoyed to see his former teammate.
