The offseason is getting close to being done and dusted as teams and players are getting ready for the next grueling NBA season. Need we remind you, the 2024-25 is going to be a season none of us will forget too soon? And as the first step, teams and players prepare for the media day. The Celtics already finished theirs and the Denver Nuggets are the next.
Denver’s media day is scheduled for Thursday, September 26 at 11:30 AM in Ball Arena. There is no doubt that the fans are the most excited to hear from our resident Serb, Nikola Jokic. I mean, how can you not miss the big guy and his absolutely unpredictable responses? But more importantly, we will be waiting to hear more about what Michael Malone and Co. have planned for the season.
After all, the commentary during their long summer was pretty negative. First and foremost, the Nuggets got it hard for letting a key piece of their championship roster – Kentavious Caldwell-Pope walk in free agency. But that was just a sign. During the Summer League, the team’s first-round pick tore his Achilles in the first game. The unfortunate incident ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Moving on to the free agency, the ‘Mile High City’ signed Dario Saric and Russell Westbrook. Both choices, though, were received with skepticism. In addition, they had a little drama with Jamal Murray and the contract extension. His injury history and inconsistencies in performance all led to the dragging out. But ultimately, in early September, both of them agreed on a four-year $208 million deal.

While most teams have their media day from September 30, the Celtics and the Nuggets are the only ones who start early. The reason is simple – both teams participate in the Abu Dhabi preseason games. Following the media day on Thursday, Jokic and Co. will start training camp on Friday, September 27.
The Celtics and Nuggets will play two preseason games in Abu Dhabi – one on October 4 (noon ET) and the second on October 6 (10:00 AM ET) at Etihad Arena. However, another key date comes in between. While the organization handled the Murray contract, they still have another big piece to ground in Denver – Aaron Gordon.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Michael Malone lead the Nuggets to another championship, or will they fall short this season?
Have an interesting take?
27th also marks the date that Gordon becomes extension eligible. The Nuggets big man will be eligible to sign a maximum of 140% of his current deal. The cherry on top? It is for four extra years on top of the coming year! But the catch here is Gordon could very well try free agency and see if he can make more in the open market. If Denver can keep him at home, they will have successfully locked up the four core players for the foreseeable future.
