Steve Kerr has never been one to bite his tongue when it comes to bad officiating, but his patience with traveling violations? Yeah, that’s long gone. After watching LaMelo Ball waltz across the court without a single whistle on March 3, Kerr lost it in his postgame rant. And today with Trae Young? Well read ahead and find out.
“I see five, six travels a game that aren’t called… The entire game is based on footwork. For the good of the game, we need to enforce traveling violations. And we’re not doing it.” Fast forward to March 22, and it’s like the refs heard Kerr’s complaints and thought, “What if we just ignored this even harder?” Because what happened in the Warriors-Hawks game was next-level ridiculous.
Trae Young didn’t just travel—he packed his bags, booked a flight, and relocated. One fan put it best: “He made it all the way to the next time zone on that travel.” And the refs? They just stood there. Picture this: first quarter winding down, Warriors already struggling, and Trae Young picks up his dribble near half-court. But instead of, you know, actually dribbling, he just… keeps moving. Shuffles both feet, takes his sweet time, then casually swings it to Georges Niang, who finds Caris LeVert for a buzzer-beating jumper.

Hawks go up 40-23. Kerr? Probably needed an emergency meditation session. Warriors fans? Absolutely losing it.
“Not even a travel at that point… brother took a whole vacation.” And the worst part? This isn’t even new. Young’s been pulling this off for years. Last season against Miami, he straight-up walked into a floater, got the bucket, and the NBA later admitted—oops, our bad, we missed that one. But guess what? The game was over, and that “oops” changed nothing.
So yeah, Kerr’s frustration? Totally justified. Because the NBA keeps pretending like these blown calls aren’t happening. And 39.43 million fans? Well don’t ask me see for yourself ahead what they have in mind.
What’s your perspective on:
Is NBA officiating becoming a joke, or are the Warriors just looking for excuses?
Have an interesting take?
Is there an anti-Warriors ref conspiracy? Fans sure think so
For a lot of Warriors fans, this wasn’t just about Young’s ridiculous no-call—it was about the bigger picture. Because somehow, these calls (or lack of them) always seem to work against Golden State.
“Bc they’re playing the Warriors.” And honestly? They might have a point. Remember the NBA Cup? Warriors vs. Rockets. Final seconds. Jonathan Kuminga fights for a loose ball, and somehow, he gets called for a foul with 3.1 seconds left. Rockets get free throws. Warriors lose. Kerr nearly combusts. Or how about Steph Curry? You could clothesline the guy on a drive to the hoop, and unless he actually hits the floor like he’s been shot, the refs won’t blow the whistle. Meanwhile, other stars? They get breathed on and head straight to the free-throw line.
So when Young gets away with a blatant travel? Of course, Warriors fans are gonna think something’s up. This is exactly the kind of officiating they’ve been dealing with for years.

One fan summed it up perfectly: “Adam Silver is so proud” That is some fine sarcasm. One of the most frustrating things about NBA officiating is that when players mess up, they get fined. When coaches complain about the refs, they get fined. But when referees completely botch a game? We get… radio silence. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver claims referees are “absolutely held accountable,” but refuses to say how. This is just another way of saying, “Yeah, we’re totally handling it, don’t ask questions.”
“That proves right there that these refs really need to be discipline and go back to school. Because whoever is teaching these refs not doing a good job period. Just like players get fined these refs need to.” This isn’t even just a Warriors issue. Remember that Pistons-Thunder game? The refs hit Detroit with five technicals in a single quarter and tossed Cade Cunningham for clapping. Then there’s Scott Foster, the NBA’s most controversial ref, who’s been caught in so many sketchy moments that fans have entire conspiracy theories about him.

At some point, something has to change. Right now, it just feels like the league is hoping people forget about it. But realistically? The league isn’t going to start cracking down anytime soon. If they wanted to, they would have already done it.
So until then, expect more blown calls, more fan meltdowns, and a lot more Steve Kerr press conferences where he sounds like a man slowly losing his will to live.
