While Dub Nation has been buzzing since Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler joined forces, there is one dark horse on the Warriors roster whose contribution is finally beginning to get some recognition. Yes, we are talking about Quinten Post. The late second round pick has gradually become a key part of the rotation and provided major relief to the team’s size problem. In his limited appearances, Post is averaging 8.2 points and over three rebounds. Sure enough, Steve Kerr is among the many impressed with the rookie’s talent, especially after his 13-point performance against the Bucks on Monday, even making a bold comparison with NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.

While Quinten might not be the most athletic big in the game, Kerr believes he uses his skillset perfectly, “There’s different kinds of athleticism. [Post] plays fast, processes things quickly. There’s no hesitation in his game, so it makes him quicker than he probably is.” Reminds you of someone else? Yes, the head coach drew a comparison to star quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Brock Purdy, who are also not the most athletic of the bunch but use their IQ and fearless attitude as means to become quicker than they are.

Especially in his last two appearances since Jimmy’s arrival, Post has significantly stepped up his game, averaging 15.5 points. Against the Bucks, the rookie showed Kerr that he is comfortable in any role he is put in. That’s because Kerr initially had doubts about Quentin starting the game going against a superstar like Damian Lillard, “Didn’t really wanna put Quinten in that position as a rookie of having to guard high pick and roll. Just felt a lot better with Draymond starting at the five just to start the game out with a little tighter defense on Dame in the pick and roll.”

However, Post quickly settled in his new role and dropped 13 points off the bench, impressing the head coach yet again, “He came in and made his mark. Didn’t matter, he came off the bench ready to roll and gave us some huge buckets.” Moreover, he showed his fearless attitude by draining a long range three with no hesitation, taking a page out of Steph’s book. Well, this is not the first time Kerr has compared one of his players to Mahomes.

Last time it was Steph, as the head coach said, “[Mahomes] reminds me so much of Steph, honestly. Just a multi-sport fluidity — the athleticism that is sort of understated. There’s this brilliance in his movement and his flow.” And putting Quinten in the same ranks says a lot about Kerr’s faith in the rookie.

Steve Kerr in awe of Quinten Post’s “Confidence” calls him “Well-Schooled”

As Post drained three of his four deep range attempts against the Bucks, Kerr was taken aback by the big man’s mentality at such a young age, “The confidence is really impressive with Quinten and I’m just so impressed by just the way he plays, the nature of his game… He’s a well-schooled, well coached player who has come in here as a rookie just ready to go.” Although Post is a rookie, he is not an ordinary one.

Sure, he was picked 52 overall in last year’s draft. But Quinten is 24-years-old and has a ton of experience hooping at a high level. Coming out of Boston College, he had a monster senior year, averaging 17 points and over eight rebounds. And he has proven in a short span that his game translates perfectly to the NBA. Of course, this is an incredible sign for the Warriors as Post could be one of the pieces they build with in the long term as he continues to grow. What are your thoughts about the rookie’s game?
