The Damian Lillard saga has taken some huge strides in the past few days. After months of speculation and rumors, a report revealed that the teams had made some progress in their negotiations. All the while, Lillard has dropped hints about his future here and there. From his songs to social media posts, fans have kept a close eye on the 7-time NBA All-Star. 

The Portland Trailblazers superstar once again took to Twitter and revealed that is indeed a Miami Heat fan. However, he isn’t a fan of one thing which might influence his future decision.

Miami Heat and Damian Lillard have been constant names in NBA debates for some time now. After all, Lillard has openly said that he wants to join Jimmy Butler and his Heat side.

Moreover, the two teams have been in talks for around two months now. With the NBA season just a few weeks away, it looks like the teams are making useful progress in talks. Lillard recently revealed that he is a Heat fan on Twitter. However, he doesn’t like the ‘Big Three’ culture, as it ruins the competition in the league. 

“I am a Heat fan lol but I’m not a fan of everyone trying to make their own big 3 lol. Not good for the league”, wrote the 2013 Rookie of the Year. Teams like the Los Angeles Clippers and the Brooklyn Nets are perfect examples of how a big three can backfire.

The Heat popularized the Big Three, when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh joined forces in 2010 to great success. That magic might be recaptured by potentially building a big three with the addition of Lillard. A trio of Lillard, Butler, and Bam Adebayo might give the Heat their first NBA title since 2013, when the original Big Three achieved the feat.

Miami will have to bring out the cash book for Lillard

Lillard is the Portland Trailblazers’ All-Time Leading Scorer. As a result, the Heat will have to go deep into their resources to sign the 33-year-old.

Moreover, Butler and Bam Adebayo earn a combined $309,396,331, which will make it tough to find cap space. According to Spotrac, Lillard is on a 4-year $176,265,152 deal, which expires in 2024.
