Days after the Jamal Murray incident, Adam Silver faced a grave allegation. During the Nuggets‘ frustrating Game 2, Murray threw a towel and a heat pack on the court. The star guard initially got away with the act but eventually received a $100k fine from the league. However, some sections of the NBA world were unhappy with this, as they expected a suspension for the hostile act. While the arguments boiled down after Game 3, a recent report has dropped a ticking time bomb on the NBA Commissioner.

An article from Heavy claimed that Murray threw those items at Marc Davis, the chief referee on that night, disappointed with his calls. It also stated the league decided not to suspend Murray on account of his clean history. While there isn’t any evidence for this claim, the Heavy article further dropped an allegation on the league. The article quoted an executive whose identity wasn’t revealed and stated that the league didn’t suspend Murray to avoid a “bad look” and retain the viewership.

And, another undisclosed front office source said“You’re supposed to prioritize the safety and integrity of your referees. They should not be assaulted. They should not be made to feel intimidated or victimized while they’re working their job.”

On the other hand, the refs themselves had a lenient approach while handling the issue. They didn’t make an immediate decision regarding the act. However, in the last two-minute report, Marc Davis revealed that he wasn’t aware of Jamal Murray‘s act. And revealed he would have only thrown a technical foul at him and not an ejection.

The immediate response from the refs also raises doubts about the league’s efforts to downplay the situation and protect the Nuggets star.

While Adam Silver faces the heat in the controversy, Murray has been in the firing zone for even longer. Apart from fans, the loyal NBA follower, Snoop Dogg, also dropped his opinion on the controversy. He said, ” He throw the towel then he throw the other thing which could have caused an injury. You gotta give him one game. $100K mean nothing to him, Man is making 50 million.”

He also referred to the contrasting decision in the Patrick Beverley controversy. The Bucks guard aggressively threw a basketball at a fan a few days ago. The league investigated the issue and slammed him for a 4-game suspension. While the star is already out of the postseason, it wouldn’t affect the team immediately.

However, in the case of Murray, the Nuggets are currently in a hot pursuit to defend their title. On top of it, they were already 0-2 in the series, and suspending him would have further worsened the situation. Nevertheless, the Nuggets got back on its feet with the Game 3 win. Despite the context of the season, Murray should have received a suspension, as per the popular notion across the globe.
