While there was an obvious struggle on the part of Jayson Tatum in Game 2 yesterday, we saw Jrue Holiday take charge of the offense. At halftime, Holiday contributed 17 points, while finishing the game later with a team-high 26 points and 11 rebounds. He was incredible yesterday as he shot 11-of-14 from the field, making the Celtics an unstoppable force. This way, the Boston side clinched a 2-0 lead against the Mavericks.

Of course, this isn’t just Holiday’s win but also a major win for the entire roster. Each member knew they wouldn’t be at this stage without their teammates’ support. Now, they have made that feeling known to the public!

During the post-game presser in the aftermath of Game 2, Jayson Tatum was asked about a hypothetical situation in which the Celtics had to play without Jrue Holiday. The possibility of the same happening could have been a bit high since the player had his share of injuries during the regular season. However, being glad that Holiday was not absent, Tatum replied, “Good thing we don’t have to find out… we’re very, very fortunate to have him, and he was excellent tonight”.

Jrue Holiday himself made use of the Game 2 win to provide some clarifications. In a statement made prior to engaging in the presser, the player addressed rumors about an alleged comment he made, in which he stated that Jaylen Brown was better than Tatum. Holiday explained that his intention was not to present a biased viewpoint and that he likes to praise his teammates “when they’re playing well”.

“To compare them is something that I would never do, because they’re two completely different players……… how they play together and how they work together is something that is sacred,” said Holiday. “I do not prefer one or the other. I prefer both”.

The spotlight on Jrue Holiday apparently emerged after he agreed with head coach Jason Kidd’s remark that “Jaylen (Brown) is their (Celtics) best player”. As many fans started to question whether the coach was playing mind games with his players, Holiday’s agreement only added more fuel to the fire. However, with both him and Jayson Tatum now coming out, Boston Fans can now be assured that there is no tension in the locker room.

Jrue Holiday considers himself a “Utility Guy” for Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown

While the ongoing tournament marks Jrue Holiday’s first full season with the Boston Celtics, the star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been associated with the franchise for quite some time now. Their partnership allowed the team to qualify in every single playoff and even reach the Finals back in 2021. Knowing the offensive prowess they possess, the 33-year-old looked to ensure that he could help out to the best of his capabilities.

“I’m a utility guy,” said Holiday during the recent presser. “I’ll do whatever. I’m here to win. I feel like they brought me here to win, and I’ll do my best to do that.” The player complimented Tatum-Brown by calling the Celtics out to be “their team”, stating, “The pressure that they have on themselves to execute and to be great is a little bit different than my pressure.”
