However, as the regular season and the in-season tournament are going on simultaneously, it is becoming very strenuous for the athletes. So on the 3rd of December, the NBA has planned a strategic timeout for all the 30 teams in the league who are well-deserving of this break.

The league intentionally placed this break in the middle of the first NBA In-Season Tournament, giving players an important break before the quarterfinals begin on December 4th.

NBA commissioner gives a brief about this off-day

The first day off on December 3rd fulfills two functions. It allows tournament participants one extra day to adjust to the innovative format. The other reason is to guarantee that players are physically and mentally ready for the tournament’s unique difficulties. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is particularly delighted about the response he is receiving from the fans for his new initiative. “It’s the beginning of a new tradition in the league, and I’m particularly excited about it. I think for this In-Season Tournament, I love the marketing around it, I love the excitement we’re starting to see,” Silver expressed.

The intentional allocation of the off days not only respects the strenuous nature of the game but also matches the NBA’s objective for a more interesting and exciting league schedule.

As the teams relax and rejuvenate themselves, the fans are getting ready for the exciting quarterfinals. All the matches are going to be a treat for the fans as only the best-of-best have qualified. Due to that, the prize pool of the In-Season tournament rewards teams and players from the quarterfinals itself giving them $50,000 per player. The winner of this tournament will earn a whooping amount of $500,000 per player which gives the player some extra motivation to give their 110% in the matchups. Which teams have qualified for the knockout stage of the In-Season tournament?

By winning their respective East brackets, the Bucks, Pacers, and Celtics earned their spot in the knockout stage. The New York Knicks won the Wild Card game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Lakers, Pelicans, and Kings also advanced to the NBA In-Season Tournament quarterfinals by defeating their respective Western Conference opponents. In a surprising wildcard addition, the Phoenix Suns defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves to earn their spot in the quarterfinals.
