The Bucks suffered a disappointing exit in the first round after the 8th seeding Miami Heat dismantled the top-seeding team. Following the series defeat, Giannis stormed the press conference with his statement on failure. He said, “Michael Jordan played 15 years, won six championships; the other nine years was a failure?… There’s no failure in sports.” Months after the exit, he followed it up another shocking statement in the off season, during an interview with NY Times.

Bucks star reacts to Giannis Antetokounmpo statement

In his recent shocking interview with NY Times, Giannis Antetokounmpo said, “I don’t want to be 20 years on the same team and don’t win another championship.” 

Following the statement, fans and experts of the league issued their take on the Bucks star’s future. However, on this occassion, the star’s own teammate, Bobby Portis, opened up on the situation. Notably, Portis recently completed his campaign for the Team USA in the FIBA World Cup.

When a reporter stopped Portis during a practice session, he asked him to give his opinion on the Giannis’ decision. He said, “Obviously everybody wants to win… I don’t feel anything about it and that’s just personal opinion.” He further spoke about the sacrifices that many players in the team have made in the Bucks.

Furthermore, he ended his statement saying, “There were no harsh feelings about it… Giannis being Gianni. Giannis wanted best out of everybody.”

Richard Jefferson flays Giannis

Following the statement, in an ESPN show, Richard Jefferson said, “Just because you go to another place doesn’t mean that you’re going to be guaranteed a championship.” He further argued that Giannis was able to win a ring in 2021 because of the team that was formed around him. He also said that it will be certain whether star’s future franchise can form a championship winning team around him.
