Bronny James stands at a career crossroads. On one hand, he is not considered good enough to declare for the upcoming draft. On the other hand, the weight of his father’s dream looms large. Bronny’s collegiate career did not kick off as expected. Across 19 games, he is averaging just 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists from 37.1% from the field. While some believe that he is simply not talented enough, others think that USC’s program is responsible for his struggles.

Because of his underwhelming performances, his draft prospects have dropped significantly. However, there is no doubt whether a team would draft him if he does decide to enlist since he comes with a presumed package deal with Papa LeBron James. However, given his struggles, it would be better if he continued to hone his skills in college first. But should he run it back with USC or take his talents elsewhere?

In the recent episode of For The Love Of The Game, basketball analyst Kevin Lucas explained that Oregon might be a better program for Bronny since they have players that complement his playing style. Moreover, he’d have ample playing time for development, given the departure of some players from last year’s team. Lucas also points out that the Ducks have a track record of success and boast key players like Jackson Shelstad, Jadrian Tracey, and Kwame Evans Jr. Oregon has been thriving as of late and has climbed to the third position in the Pac-12 standings with 10 wins in 16 games.

Meanwhile, USC has yet to find any tangible success since coach Andy Enfield does not value defense that much. After landing the likes of top recruits Isaiah Collier and Bronny James, the Trojans were expected to finish top 2 in the Pac-12. But they are languishing in the 11th position with only five wins in 16 games so far. Since making his USC debut, Bronny has struggled to get meaningful minutes. He mostly contributes off the bench, and the handful of games he has started were because of injuries to the Trojans’ starters. This has led many to believe USC might not be the right place for the 19-year-old to polish his skills.

Even if he opts not to enter the transfer portal, Bronny will find plenty of opportunities to grow if he stays another year at USC. Boogie Ellis, Isaiah Collier, and Kobe Johnson are all expected to declare for the NBA Draft this summer. That means if Bronny does return, he will have a chance to start for the team. However, everything hinges on whether he will enlist in the draft this year or not.
