Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has had an unimaginable career in the NBA. From being sidelined in college to becoming the NBA’s greatest shooter ever, Curry has a story to tell. The new documentary titled, ‘Underrated’, extensively covered his story. During the promotion of his documentary on the In Proximity podcast, the four-time NBA champion revealed his biggest inspirations.

It is Mardy Fish, a tennis phenomenon who also has a documentary covering his ups and downs in the sport. Talking extensively about the documentary, Curry gave us some of his biggest takeaways.

Stephen Curry takes inspiration from tennis legend

Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish had quite an interesting rivalry. Despite being rivals, Fish lived with Roddick’s family at one point in time when he was having trouble in his household.

His story is covered extensively in ‘Untold: Breaking Point’ available worldwide on the popular streaming platform, Netflix. It seems like four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry takes inspiration from this documentary and Fish.

“I would say, one of my good friends, Mardy Fish, has a story out on Untold. He’s a top-tier tennis prospect coming through; him and Andy Roddick were kind of neck and neck as the one and two in the US from tennis representation perspective. It speaks through a lot of different themes. One just handling expectations you put on yourself and others put on you”, said Curry during the podcast.

He then talks about the various takeaways, like finding out yourself and staying true to it in the documentary. Interestingly, the Warriors superstar also asserts that the film reveals some whole new aspects of Fish’s career. These aspects were unknown to Steph despite knowing the tennis legend for more than a decade.

Fish faced a major heartbreak in 2004, and this left a huge dent in his life. Despite being the favorite, Fish lost the 2004 Gold Medal match at the Summer Olympics to Nicolas Massu of Chile.

This defeat left him so heartbroken, he never returned to the Olympics. The documentary also covers the impact this had on Fish’s mental health and how he coped with it.

The ‘Underrated’ documentary places special emphasis on Curry’s time at Davidson College. After all, this is where the Baby-Faced Assassin developed his game and turned into the star he is today.

Despite not having the athleticism and the build required to make it big in the NBA world, Steph Curry battled all odds to win the Southern Player of the Year award twice. Moreover, he was selected to the NCAA All-Region team averaging 25.3 points, 3.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds in three seasons for the Davidson Wildcats.
