Steve Kerr, a 9-time NBA champion, has a simple yet powerful message for LeBron James and Stephen Curry: win the gold medal. Fame, history, accolades, everything merges with the Team USA basketball roster traveling for the Paris Olympics. Heading it is the Akron duo of Stephen Curry and LeBron James. Fans have only had dreams of the modern generation’s greats playing together. Now, after facing off in four straight finals and countless other blockbuster games, their unification has fans raving with excitement.

That feeling is mutual even for the leader of the acclaimed squad Steve Kerr. Orchestrating such a high-profile squad would foster pressure and nervousness for a head coach. But with Curry and LeBron James both on the team, the four-time NBA winning head coach isn’t breaking a sweat.

“Way more for the Bulls, because I had to do that. But now I just tell Steph Curry and LeBron James to win the gold medal” Kerr told Euro Hoops when asked whether he felt more pressure taking pivotal shots as a member of the Bulls or managing the star-laden lineup of Team USA.

With such a high degree of confidence placed in Stephen Curry and LeBron James, Kerr’s only dilemma remains to find a glue forward who can tie everything together. “It’s the two-wing spot next to Steph [Curry] and LeBron [James] that we’re contemplating, and we haven’t seen Kevin yet. There are still things to consider. But I really like we’re getting a lot of tape to watch and I have a good feel for different lineups,” Steve Kerr said in that regard.

Ideally, that spot would be reserved for Kevin Durant. However, with him dealing with a calf injury, he has yet to play in any of the exhibition games so far. The good news is that the Slim Reaper’s injury has progressed positively and he could be making his debut today against South Sudan.

If Durant does return tonight, the three-headed trio of himself, James, and Curry will most likely be certain to start during the Paris Olympics 2024. But what about the other spots? Does a struggling Joel Embiid get bumped for a thriving Anthony Davis?

Steve Kerr is not willing to move Joel Embiid

What’s your perspective on:

Is Joel Embiid really overshadowing LeBron and Steph, or are we just caught in the hype?

Have an interesting take?

Joel Embiid is a tyrant in the NBA. The Cameroonian center has transformed into a relentless scoring machine that has consistently rung MVP bells over the past few seasons. After a lot of controversy, he decided to chase his coveted Olympic dream with Team USA, further adding to the allure of the roster.

However, he hasn’t adapted well to the rule disparity of international basketball. Embiid has regularly struggled, recently only scoring 8 points against Serbia. Obviously, the aftermath of his injury continues to hobble him. At the same time, two competing bigs, Anthony Davis and Bam Adebayo have not only been exemplary but have prospered when playing together.

“We’re getting a sense of a combination that we like. The Bam [Adebayo] and AD [Anthony Davis] step off the bench has been brilliant, we will stay with that,” Kerr said. Despite his loaded praise, Kerr remains adamant about starting The Process over them. “Joel [Embiid] is gonna start”.

Other players such as Anthony Edwards and Jayson Tatum have also been equally impressive. While Kerr loves the idea of having youth and future stars at his disposal, he did admit the only reason they are a part of the roster is that they are the “best group”.

“We love that, to have some of the young guys in a pipeline now and on the team so that they can be part of the next group. But we didn’t think of that when we put the team together, we just put the best group possible. We’re just trying to win” the head coach said in his conversation with Euro Hoops.
